Congratulations to Abe Lee and his former PhD student, Xuan Li! Their patent was issued December 31, 2024. This microfluidic trapping array efficiently pairs single cells in isolated compartments in an easy-to-operate manner. Work was funded by NSF.

We are proud to share Dr Taraman, and Dylan, continued this journey beyond our program towards a startup company, and now have officially been licensed by Orthopedic Specialty Bracing for their innovative brace!
In 2019, our BioENGINE (BME 180 Senior Design) students were tasked by Dr Sharief Taraman at CHOC to find a solution for Dylan, a cerebral palsy pediatric patient, who wanted to be able to write and perform daily tasks better given his tremors.

Dr. Wainwright is also M.Eng instructor in the BME Concentration – he teaches BME 295P “Functional Medical Device Development.”
