So much false equivalence in media on gerrymandering in Texas vs California & Virginia. California and Virginia maps approved by the voters. That's a huge difference not enough people pointing out

There was a moment — and we all know what that moment was — where Melania was given two choices: evil, or vodka & Chaka Khan.

She chose poorly.

Yeah... The amount and the content of glurge/propaganda sent from right-wing advocacy groups into my mailbox the last two months has been infuriating,

NPR continuing to "both sides" everything even when they have to contort themselves. I live in VA. The Democratic message is straightforward, clear, and explains the reasons of its position. The GOP message is the one using misdirection, half-truths, racial division, & hyperbole.

Do better NPR.

Text reads:

“I’m coming with you," said Sumi simply. "I think that's all that really matters, don't you? If I say I'm coming? I've been to more worlds than I think anyone else at this school, and sometimes waking up under the same sky two days in a row is the hardest thing I've ever done. Plus I'm pretty good at fighting stuff. If Chris gets to be your shield, I get to be your sword, and I'll cut and I'll cut and I'll cut until there's nothing left for chopping.

"I've asked you not to call me that," said Christopher with surprising primness. "Just because you're happy being called by a nickname, that doesn't mean I am. My name is my name, just the way it is, not truncated to make it easier for you."

Sumi huffed quietly, turning to look at Eleanor like she
thought she'd find help from that quarter.

Eleanor only shook her head. "Names matter, dear. If someone wants to be called something, that's what you call them, whether or not it's what you would want to be called in their place.

As someone who regularly has his name shortened without prompting or permission, I *loved* that @seananmcguire.bsky.social put this passage into Through Gates of Garnets and Gold.

I'm just saying that in the Middle Ages nobles were excommunicated for being far less insolent towards the pope than Vance recently has been.

I think it's time for the Vatican to remind people of this.

One of the most embarrassing things about modern America is that we have been fully taken over and dominated by the dumbest people with the worst political instincts imaginable. I had always assumed that if the Republic were to fall it'd be at the hands of evil geniuses, not evil morons.

I just sent my 1st official email telling someone at work that the info that they got off of our internal AI bot concerning the terms of use for a particular piece of software was flat-out wrong. It's my job to know those terms, that person knew that, & tried to use AI to prove me wrong.

Fuck AI.

Once again, speaking as a member of the demographic, it’s vital to remember that as a whole cis hetero white males over the age of 50 are the real-life Confederacy of Dunces.

I’ve always hated the Hollywood trope of men bemoaning marriage and stating how much it stinks. I’m in a marriage of equals, and it’s the greatest source of joy and comfort in my life.

Also, only making love to the same woman for the rest of my life is shaping up to be fairly awesome as well.

"A return to the playoffs means this will also be the first postseason featuring Gritty...

"It’s hard to imagine anything more unhinged than regular season Gritty, but that’s only because this playoff side of him has yet to be seen."

Trump is fucking insane. The Iranian leadership is fucking insane. Netanyahu is fucking insane. It's a pipe dream that these madmen are going to hold it together to have an actual two-week ceasefire. And drawing conclusions about who got what at this point is like trying to catch a greased eel.

I have seen the face of the 21st century American economic dystopia, and it's a maniacally grinning bucktoothed cartoon beaver wearing a baseball cap.

Although not a professional writer, over the years I posted a plenty of material to blogs, LiveJournal, and a 'zine I self-published for several years. I won't actually do it as I don't want to enable the AI fuckers, but I wonder what the result would be if I ran my old stuff through an AI checker.

It's always been my opinion that while there are authors who were clearly the best choice to record the audiobooks for their own work - Harlan Ellison was a prime example - they are few and far between. The narrator's performance in the recording is just as important as reading the text correctly.

Depressingly, it's not simply that are there really people like this -- it's that there are millions of them in this country. Worse still, I'm actually related to some of them.

Honestly, it is almost impossible for any of us who are not tech nerds to use any computer or service and do so in a socially conscientiousness fashion. It really is pick the evil that you can best live with at this point.

Posts like this make me almost wish for the Facebook “like” emoji options. I would be hitting the “care” one on this post.

Also — tangentially related — one of the many reasons I’m going to rue Musk till my dying breath is the fact he *ruined* the word “grok.”

Same jacket sleeve as before, but with patch that reads “Wizards Against JK” laid overtop.

Last night, my wife gave me this awesome idea for handling one of the other Harry Potter patches that are on some of my jackets. I’ve never applied one patch over top another like this before, however. So, I am still considering whether I want to attempt it or just continuing with remove & replace.

The mobile game I play just showed me a Kalshi ad with Ben Shapiro hawking the product.

All the ad did was further convinced me of the absolute shitsomeness of the product.
