A poster showing a library worker shelving books, underneath the words "National Library Workers Day."
Today is #NationalLibraryWorkersDay! Part of #NationalLibraryWeek, this is a day to recognize and celebrate the hard work of library support staff and librarians. Are there library workers and librarians that have helped you, over the course of your reading life? www.librarything.com/tag/librarians

A screenshot of a Jake Tapper post which reads "Going to a formal event that celebrates Freedom of the Press where some of the other guests don’t understand the importance of the 1st Amendment? The Reporters Committee for the Free Press has some great accessories — including the below pocket square!" and a picture of a handkerchief with an excerpt of the 1st Amendment in a cartoony font, presumably written out by Jake Tapper, with Jake Tapper's signature
Is that his signature? I'm guessing that cartoony font is handwritten by him, but still... Did Jake Tapper actually sign his name to an excerpt of the 1st Amendment?

Beltane - Wikipedia
In Robert Jordan's WHEEL OF TIME series the characters celebrate a festival called Bel Tine. In Sarah J. Maas' THRONE OF GLASS books they celebrate Beltane. At first I thought maybe it was a subtle reference by Maas to Jordan's work. Nope, both are taken from a real thing, basically Gaelic May Day.

Sarah Wilson, I am guessing from context, is an Australian "quit sugar" person
"Sarah Wilson is a lady who thinks that cancer can be cured by masturbation, or something. And who made up the idea of quitting sugar."
"She has rich girl hair."
"And Photoshop skin."
"And we wanna be just like her."

The Katering Show – WE QUIT SUGAR
YouTube video by The Kates
I talked about DEADLOCH but never followed up why I knew I would love it when I saw Kates McLennan and McCartney were the creators. I've loved them for ages, back to THE KATERING SHOW, "the journey of a food intolerant and an intolerable foodie." "Sugar has been linked to dementia, corn, Americans."

The Katering Show – WE QUIT SUGAR
YouTube video by The Kates
Prime. I got interested when others (like Bully? maybe?) mentioned the new season. It became must-watch for me when I learned the Kates were behind it -- McLennan and McCartney, Australian comics I've loved for ages. "Sugar has been linked to dementia, corn, Americans."

THE POWER BROKER is one of the best books I've ever read but it's SO MUCH for SO LONG (almost 1300 pages) I have to break it up with lighter stuff. Reminiscent of DON QUIXOTE! I also read Jennette McCurdy's HALF HIS AGE like in between chapter 7 and 8

Reading: rereading Waid/Wieringo FF, while rereading BANDETTE for like the 3rd time, while waiting for HARLEY & IVY and WONDER WOMAN to finish current storylines before binging, also THE POWER BROKER by Robert Caro and something by Sarah Maas

Watching: got new DAREDEVIL and THE BOYS today, recently have really enjoyed DEADLOCH and A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS, REGGIE DINKINS is hilarious, BEST MEDICINE (remake of the British DOC MARTIN) is decent background noise. Movies: SEND HELP was absolutely the silly Sam Raimi gorefest I wanted

I've tried, in my later years, to not be the gatekeeper, not be the "You've never seen THE GODFATHER???" kind of guy. So I will just say you should begin at the beginning of the GROO Epic solo series and you will probably like it. I remember spending ten minutes on single pages, devouring the art

I had similar difficulties rereading it a few years back. When it's good it's VERY good, but you are never unaware that it is a pretty pure expression of that guy, best and worst. Even the non-that guy issues are pretty decent, actually.

The Twilight Zone, The Dummy.
YouTube video by Spiral Film Clips
Time for a TWILIGHT ZONE rewatch. Thinking of "The Dummy" today, specifically the bit where Willie lays everything out. We mimicked this ad infinitum in middle school, the delivery is SO GOOD. "You moved my mouth, you stuck out my tongue, you JERK. Don't you GET it? You MADE me what I AM today."

There's a story from a former semi-regular (can't remember who... Patton Oswalt maybe?) at Penn Jillette's movie nights, about watching MALCOLM X and how many times they got to applaud in the crowded theater, suddenly overshadowed by having to react to the line, "Malcolm X is dead."

Three panel comic. Panel 1: young man in a hoodie looking morose and sitting on a swing set. He says “she’s breaking up with me…” Panel 2: next to him is a glyptodon, an early ancestor of armadillos. With his head in his hands, the young man says “what do I do glyptodon?” Panel 3: the glyptodon says “I’m like an early ancestor of armadillos. The young man angrily replies, “are you even listening man?”

I've been enjoying the new episodes of SCRUBS but by far the best thing in this season is Vanessa Bayer. In the latest episode I had to rewind the moment where she tells a doctor "Go to your room!" many, many times

I wonder how Alicia Witt is doing? Oh yeah, she was just on JUSTIFIED. (quick Google search) That was TWELVE YEARS AGO. That kind of derailed my wondering.
(She's had some ups and downs recently but right now she seems fine.)

There was a post recently about how that movie is about an American who hates America and never wants to go back (relevant!) and I've been wanting to rewatch it with that perspective (which hadn't really occurred to me watching it before). Maybe today!
