I've always had working students (and in fact I tend to teach the one course geared toward workers, starts at 5:30), and it doesn't account for the marked difference over the last couple years

I've had so many students say "oh right, I forgot about the textbook" when I mention resources they can use instead of a translator or AI. They literally log into the textbook platform to do their homework. 🤦🏻‍♀️

My husband sees it too in his high school science classes.

Unfortunately a big part of it in both situations is that kids can barely read in English, so word problems in advanced science are difficult, and a foreign language is practically impossible

In my case, it's 100% AI. Translator use has been bad for most of my career, but AI over the last 2 years has been completely out of control. Learning a language is hard and they want a shortcut, and anything requiring a few minutes of thought or application of concepts is too tedious
