America’s mainstream media was never ready for democratic backsliding. It has proven itself to be woefully inept at this moment.

Historians and political scientists will write - with ease - about the failure of the fourth estate to act as a watchdog, educator, and scrutineer for what has occurred.

Why is "It Feels Like Christmas" from A Muppet Christmas Carol such an earworm.

And why did it pop into my head and take up residence in the middle of April?

I see this kind of impulse really frequently, especially on Tumblr, I feel like.

And sometimes I cannot resist the urge to step in and relate my actual experience of more recent technologies or cultural moments that are being misrepresented through a rose-tinted nostalgic lens.

I still need to play this one!! It came out when my computer couldn't handle it, and I just never got back around to playing it.

Probably my favorite series of games ever. I had to wait years to get Myst until we upgraded to a computer with a CD-ROM drive.

Can I ask what all these are? I love a mystery, and I'm a sucker for stories with gay people.

My husband and I have been working our way through Columbo on Blu-ray. One of the few murder mystery shows he'll willingly watch.

They already used the Pooch-ini joke with Martin talking about Eddie. I can't remember which episode, though. Early season, I think?

Article screenshot reading:

"I was standing in front of my parked car on I-684 cutting the penis out of a road killed raccoon, thinking about how weird some of my family members have turned out to be," he wrote, reportedly pondering the grudges that his brother Douglas Kennedy and cousin Bobby Shriver had held. "My kids waited patiently in the car."

"My kids waited patiently in the car."

The weirdest part of the story is that *while he was cutting off the raccoon penis* he was apparently pondering how weird other members of his family are.

They probably didn't even want to see his putrefying raccoon penis! Freaks.

Journalists there definitely do lots of good work, and I sometimes regret not being able to read it.

I'd probably still be subscribed if it weren't for the overt transphobia in both news and opinion. But the lack of fact checking on lots of those pieces has really broken my trust with the editors.

This part was pretty amazing.

I'm sure it's probably not his intent, but this just sounds like, "I've been saying for years that they're all a bunch of uggos!!"

Also, I don't much care about the intent if it's anything other than an unconditional apology.

Hi, my name is Alex Goldman and I host the
@hyperfixedpod.bsky.social I used to host the Reply All podcast, and I have found that so many people who liked Reply All have no idea Hyperfixed exists. It's super frustrating because I have no idea how to reach those people.

While you wait for the astronauts to be recovered please call your Congressman and suggest that we keep doing things we're good at and not try to destroy every accomplishment the US has ever made. Fund NASA, and the US Forest Service research, and the NSF, and everything that made us great.

Let’s toast those astronauts.

Then let’s wake up tomorrow and remind every American of what we all stand to lose to this regime.

Humanity did that. Science did that. Publicly-funded research did that. Excellent universities did that. Diversity did that. International cooperation did that.

Artemis II is a perfect example of what we can do at our best.

Welcome home, Integrity crew!

NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.

We had a couple of Eurasian collared doves in the ponderosa out back.

I really thought they were heading towards mating, but they flew off. I'm pretty sure this is almost or exactly the same branch where I saw another pair copulate a couple years ago. It was neat to observe firsthand. VERY brief.

Clinton, Sanders, and the Myth of a Monolithic β€œBlack Vote” This year, variables like age and geography have cut into conventional narratives about race and voting patterns within the Democratic Party.

If the DNC (thunder crash, screaming) had this power, Obama would not have been the nominee in 08.

@newyorker.com had a very good writeup on some of the dynamics in 2016: www.newyorker.com/news/news-de...

But it's easier to take a page from πŸŽƒ and just claim elections we don't like were rigged.

I somehow read that as "choke cherry" at first, and I was like, "Ew. That sounds like a terrible treat."

Fair enough. Our updates have kept up to date with stuff on our trips, which is the reason I thought it was worn mentioning. I'm sure there are still holes. πŸ˜•

I do 100% agree on your bigger point: I wish they'd just add the preconditioning button the newer model years have.

Sorry if I'm assuming ignorance where there is none. I thought it was worth saying though, given the mention in the video.

My husband and I did it before our huge yearly trip last Nov. Needs at least 30GB, I think. But it was pretty painless. And might make longer trips a little nicer for you.
