How interesting that's it's a thing- I even did a poll on instagram and I was the only one 🥲

I am from south east London (lived there my whole life except 4 years at uni in Sheffield) and I am asked frequently if I am from Australia or New Zeland. None of my friends or family from the area have ever been asked this 🤯

Really disheartened to see misinformation spread regarding literacy today. I was informed that 'phonics doesn't work for learners who aren't a Gestault level 4 or above'. This is so harmful for our clients on so many levels 😪

But how is it possible to have difficulties in spoken language that do not transfer over to written language? Does NAPLIC have a position on this? (not trying to start beef genuinely interested!)

And don't forget there is free training for both approaches for clinicians- no excuse not to be using evidenced based approaches for #CAS #DVD #SpeechApraxia

Does this mean #DLD is considered solely an oral language disorder? I always assumed it would be both modalities and therefore a dx of dyslexia isn't appropriate.

A trend I often see is young people who have been exposed to English for 10+ years called 'EAL' and their difficulties are written off because English wasn't their first language. Bilingualism is a strength, and if someone has lang diff after 10 years- it's not because of the second language! #EAL

We held a Speech Therapy Department Share & Learn day today - what an absolute joy to be surrounded by such talented, ambitious & thoughtful colleagues. Super important moment in coming together & celebrating each other's achievements 💙 Do you have department days too?

In case it's useful, here's a thread of useful #SLP #SLT related things I've found useful (as an #SLPeeps with an interest in child language and literacy), including starter packs and feeds. Also includes some related fields (cognitive science, education).
