I have experienced this multiple times, it's a deeply hurting feeling.
I have no real answer for navigating it. Sometimes I have continued to try and give the same energy regardless as I care that much about the person, sometimes it's hurt so much I've naturally over time reduced my 'effort'.

Honestly I've thought more than once about going even further and privately hosting my own mastodon instance, then I don't have to follow anyone else's rules about what I post haha, however, it's whether anyone would actually follow it!
