Happy #Supermanday.
If you had to ask me to show a single page that embodies who Superman is, it would be this one.
Page from Superman: Red, White and Blue #5 by Daniel Warren Johnson.
I love you. I'm so proud of you.
I missed it. Do they do this monthly? I never found it when I was looking. Studio city library is monthly and so much fun
Poster for 3 men and a baby: tom selleck, ted danson and Steve guttenberg (who is in the stonecutters lest we forget) are all looking cute in that middle aged 80s way as they stare at the camera
I'm turning 39 quite soon and a relatively arbitrary thing I decided I want to do is watch the 10 highest grossing films from the year I was born before I get to 40. With that being explained, tonight's film, the highest grossing film of 1987
FINALLY saw "Eddington"
This is one of those movies that are gonna be very hard to understand for ppl who did not live through the pandemic. I would say "it gets too over-the-top," but I actually think it is a fair representation of contemporary US society and its psychosis.
It is our dog Momo, an Italian greyhound minpin chihuahua something something rescue mutt, on his 10th birthday, side-eyeing the hat we put him in and the cupcakes we’re holding, wondering why they’re on fire.
This Very Good Boy is 10 years old today! Momo is as happy and friendly and energetic as ever, the favorite boy of vets and groomers and neighborhood cats and every kid who sees him out and asks to pet him. And he will still endure a silly hat long enough for a photo, but he will side-eye you for it
Congratulations on this. Will this only be on the disc or released anywhere else once it comes out? Or transcript ?
Very excited my interview with theeeee legend Sally Field will be featured on the Criterion disc for HUD. She’s one of the last living people to have worked and been close with Martin Ritt and she had some great stories!
Lee’s Famous Succulent Chicken Hoagie Tender marinated chicken, grilled onions, mayo, vinegar, shredded lettuce & tomato on a toasted French roll. Served hot. Best with Pepper Plant Sauce (also pictured), a Cali hot sauce which is really good & that I first had at Lee’s & have ordered or found ever since Blurred chili cheese fries in the back
A simple but effective Hot Pastrami from Lee’s on a French roll with of course mustard & pickles Absolute HEAT
The Rosemary’s Turkey from Dave’s. Hot sandwich. Rosemary toast, avocado, turkey thick sliced that was soaked in some kinda Au jus or turkey broth so it’s SUPER tender & just melts in your mouth, tomato, cheese & aioli Probably their best seller
A classic tuna sub with a cored roll & huge plops of white tuna salad, lettuce, tomato, pickle & Dave’s Hotts which is his house made personal spicy pepper spread The Hotts really takes a classic up a unique notch that sets it apart from other classic tunas
Few sandwiches I had this week
1st two are from one of my longtime favorite spots, Lee’s Hoagie House in Pasadena, CA.
2nd two are from another favorite that’s survived all over NELA, Dave’s Chillin n Grillin, currently at The Rose Bowl.
Descriptions in alt-text. All delicious. All heat.
"the crew is in excellent shape"
in fact, one of them is... STRONGER than EVER. and another... seems to be INCREDIBLY FLEXIBLE... and another...
The Final girls
Movie Of The Day...
The Final Girls (2015)
The other day I watched The Thing on Blu-Ray. One of the few movies I still have on physical media. I could not believe how fucking good it looked.
Streaming media has dulled our hearts and minds.
I like it when you promote your book, share you article, tell us about your new job, announce your promotion, brag about your kids, post your pet photos, and post the yummy things you cooked. All of it.
Bill Paxton as Severen.
Near Dark (1987) 🎬🖤
#Supergirl lands in theaters June 26.
If any titles are hard to find send me a list I go to thrift stores and find a lot
I don’t mean this to sound flippant. But I think you may write because you have stories to tell. Keep telling the stories. Celebrate the completion of a chapter. When you hit a daily word count. Enjoy that part of the process. Mechanics and sales are out of our control. I am proud of you.
I remind myself it’s a muscle that I have neglected and slowly will rebuild
I owned a video store for several decades and I loved to play this movie in store. You quickly learn people are either life long fans, about the be life long fans, or absolutely do not tap into the humor and dislike the film. Still one of the movies I quote most often. "yoda's and shit"
Field of dreams has been playing on repeat for 2 months in my room. I am so happy for her
Musician Ella Fitzgerald — dressed in an elegant black gown with gold leaf-pattern sleeve detail — captured in profile while seated on a tiger print cape-covered sofa, her arms criss-crossed in her lap as she looks ahead, posed against a gold-curtained background, in a medium-length Kodachrome colour shot taken by photographer Carl Van Vechten at his studio in New York City

Say a thought about comics.
Here’s mine.
In superhero dialog, verisimilitude is better than realism.
I had a video store when this came out and my memory was that it didn’t take off quickly but over a few months it really founds its word of mouth and “back then” movies didn’t hit cable as quickly
me: hello
jason statham: (father was killed by a friendly greeting) excuse me
Sweat had never looked better
A rewatch last night of NIGHTCRAWLER confirms that it is absolutely one of the best movies of the last 15 years.
