I have to field questions from these people that are identical to the questions I get from regular folk on the street. like “so what do ecology and economics actually have in common with respect to modeling.” I would feel bad for them if they were slightly less insufferable
but the initial anecdote explains well the exhausting nature of interacting with many of these academic pretendians. They’re smart enough to know what they know and rub it in your face, but not smart enough to know when they’re embarrassing themselves by displaying their ignorance
