He came up with the atrium idea when he accidentally hit ctrl+x instead of ctrl+c when designing the Hyatt.

This is really impressive considering the concept of copy and pasting wasn't invented until nearly a decade after the Hyatt was built.

Did you know it was John Portman who invented the balcony? We didn't have them before John Portman came up with it.

He wanted you to be able to walk out of your room and spot fursuiters immediately.
