Here’s @jay.bsky.team speaking about @bsky.app way back when we only had 2 million users. This is from my conference Open Core Summit. 🦋🥹

Jay on Bluesky: We've been scaling up. There's been about a million people joining a day for the past week
Sustaining (and its accelerating) the current growth rate of 4 new users per second, @bsky.app will cross 100 million users within 9 months. Wild.

The Verge beat us to our own announcement — that's the beauty of an open network with public stats!
Join us in SF on December 6-7th to meet and hear from founders of @github.com , GitLab , @wordpress.bsky.social , @bsky.app + many OSS Capital portfolio founders and ecosystem friends. And here's a discount code for FOSS builders: 'opensourcefrens' ❤️🔥 opencoresummit.com
I wrote about how we should look to open standards, and be weary of trusting companies that have closed systems:

✨ ✍️ New: We have a developer blog now!
In our first post, we share our current technical implementation of public blocks and some possibilities for more privacy preserving implementations — an area of active research and experimentation.

Now that we've crossed 100k users, we prefer new methods of feedback — tagging the team does not scale. Please use:
• In-app reporting feature. Our mods review every report we receive.
• In-app feedback form
• Developers can file an issue on GitHub
• Email support@bsky.app for support requests
BlueSky has broken the 100,000 user mark! Congrats to the team and to all the folks who have been here to help keep the conversation and cat pictures flowing!
Time for bed now but I'm glad there were some folks watching along with me.

Someone asked on HN for a comparison between @atproto.com and @matrix.org and I had a stab at it: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35886140 Corrections/clarifications welcome; it feels like this should be a blogpost or something rather than lost in the depths of HN...
Here’s Jack on how open source protocols are just as big a deal as AI. 👌🏼🔥

I’m on it, it’s just that discoverability there is abysmal.
There’s no money in open source.
There’s only niche money in open source.
There’s definitely money in open source.
Most of the money is in open source.
The only money is in open source.
There is no money, there’s only open source.
Bluesky was a project kicked off by Jack when he was CEO of Twitter in 2019. Jack chose Jay to lead Bluesky, & Twitter paid Bluesky to build an open social protocol (not funding). Bluesky has been an independent company (PBLLC) since its formation in 2021. Bsky is owned by team; Jack is on the board
