The Moon is tidally locked so one side always faces us.
From that side, Earth is a permanent fixture in the sky 13 times larger and 43 times brighter than the Moon appears from Earth.
Four humans photographed this.
Every crater in this frame is older than any life on land.

Rare video: watch a meteorite hit the Moon in real time ๐โ๏ธ
From TikTok to the rink, the new generation of NHL stars is disrupting decades of "unwritten rules."

A 3D-printed Truchet tiling with pairs of quarter circles.
The inserts in the tray have no chosen orientations.
The tray sitting next to the inserts
I had the idea of making a Truchet tiling holder that lets me rotate each piece by 90ยฐ. There's a little pin in the tray and a slot under each piece that allows each insert to rotate and line up in one of two orientations.
Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker on the first day of shooting.
50 years ago today, @markhamillofficial.bsky.social was preparing to film his first scene in a small film called Star Wars. Before the first lines were spoken, this photo was taken in... a galaxy far far away.
This video was a complete joy to make. Here's a short preview, but next time you're looking to sit down for 45 minutes of math and art, take a look at the full version on YouTube: youtu.be/ldxFjLJ3rVY
A "making of" my #mathart post from yesterday
The original version of this puppet video was filmed during COVID.
Later, a student told me he remembered it during a test outside of mathโhe paused, breathed, and his thinking became clearer.
Sometimes important math lessons arenโt about math.

For the record my student researchers have a perfect bracket right now. As he said, โStop the tournament!โ
I've used this feed for much more of my math art than my sports analytics. But, 'tis the season for March Madness. Looking to make a bracket? Try using math at my site: mathmathness.daivdson.edu. Was on the radio, TV and in print talking it this week!
Marvelous Mathemagic with Art Benjamin at @momath.bsky.social on Pi Day. A bit irrational but I wish the show had gone on forever.

At @momath.bsky.social may wonders exist at one exhibit. This is all at the same one.
