Map identifying the approximate regions where various Indigenous groups lived in North America in 1776.

The Utah Historical Society just produced a new, excellent map of "The Peoples of North America in 1776." Great resource for anyone teaching, writing, presenting about Native peoples as part of their 250th work. america250.utah.gov/power-of-pla...

What steps can you take if you see someone in need of a warm place to stay when temperatures outside drop to freezing levels?

Here’s the rundown:

Thousands and thousands and thousands of Minneapolitans putting aside their jobs, lives, their personal safety and comfort, and all their petty differences and turning up in staggering numbers, with no guarantee this nightmare will end in a week or a month or a year. They’re all heroes

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Trump’s Death Eaters Are Coming for Our Kids After taking countless lives around the world, RFK Jr. and his ghoulish compatriots want American children to suffer too.

My latest for @thenation.com. #Trump, #RFKJr, #Vought & their cronies are responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths overseas. Now they want to bring their deadly campaign home and it is children who will suffer the most. They must be held accountable. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

Walz: "What's happening in MN defies belief. News reports simply don't do justice to the level of chaos & disruption & trauma the federal govt is raining down... This long ago stopped being a matter of immigration enforcement. Instead, it's a campaign of organized brutality against the people of MN"

As a Vanderbilt alum who went to the school because of a version of that weekend, and only thrived at all at the school because of the student groups that organized it, this is profoundly disappointing.

Yes to teachers who go off-book for what's right! I went to Alabama public school too and had a teacher in high school who ran a weekly night school for us so we could learn about the civil rights movement. Everyone in the class came.

I’m seeing a lot of posts about how certain immigrants sent to El Salvador are not actually criminals and this is true but I would also like to remind you that people with criminal records shouldn’t be subjected to this, either.

An ode to the Demographic and Health Survey Program Caren Grown reflects on the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program and its 40-plus years of impact.

More on the DHS program. Someone like Gates or Bloomberg should seriously find some money to make this come back along with FEWSNET. www.brookings.edu/articles/an-...
