“Domestic violence is nobody’s joke. It is real and these are the residual effects.” - Shreveport City Councilmember Tabatha Taylor
No mother should be forced to endure this immeasurable pain. Our children cannot keep paying the price for unfettered access to guns with their lives.
Our lawmakers should be focused on passing policies that keep us safe—but instead, they're considering legislation that would gut our life-saving gun laws. I just sent a message urging my lawmakers to oppose it: etwn.us/3DGVCCY @Everytown
If you believe — like I do — that we can end gun violence, and protect our babies, families, and communities, join us at @momsdemandaction.org and @studentsdemandaction.org. Text READY to 644-33 and we’ll connect you to a group in your community.
The deaths of nearly one-third of children under the age of 13 killed by guns are connected to intimate partner or family violence. They aren’t just losing their lives — our kids are losing their sense of safety in the one place that should be a sanctuary: home.
We have to be clear-eyed about why this keeps happening: When an abuser gains access to a gun, a woman is five times more likely to be killed. In states with weak gun laws like Louisiana, domestic violence is a death sentence because we make it dangerously easy for abusers to arm themselves.
This isn’t just a tragedy; it’s a policy choice. The shooter was convicted of a felony weapons charge and prohibited from owning a gun due to his criminal history. But Louisiana lawmakers have a back door open to allow him to get a firearm anyway.
These women are more than just statistics — they were beloved members of their communities, mothers, sisters, grandmothers, and best friends.
Their senseless deaths are not isolated incidents: Black women are 3.5 times more likely than white women to be fatally shot by an intimate partner.
In just three weeks, at least six Black women were killed at the hands of current or former partners with a firearm: Dr. Cerina Fairfax, Nancy Metayer Bowen, Barbara Deer, and Tammy McCollum. And these are only the cases that have made headlines.
I want to talk about Shreveport — about a father who shot and killed his seven children and his nephew, all between the ages of three and 11, and wounded their mothers. It’s the kind of horror that should feel impossible, but in America, it happens every day.🧵
Right now, New York lawmakers have the opportunity to save lives by including a measure to stop DIY machine guns in their state budget.
Thank you, @governor.ny.gov for your fierce leadership on this critical issue.
A late-night trip to Waffle House should never end in gunfire. Akilah Dasilva, DeEbony Groves, Joe Perez Jr., and Taurean Sanderlin should still be here today. Instead, their lives and futures were stolen by preventable gun violence, and their loved ones are forced to mourn them.
A family friend shared, “I could have a house full of kids and he would be the one to help me with bringing groceries in or taking the trash out. He kept us laughing the entire time he was around. His friends and anyone who met him loved him.”
I’m heartbroken that a water gun fight turned deadly and stole the life of 17-year-old Coriuan Bean. I’m holding his family and friends in my heart as they try to accept the unacceptable. Our kids should not have to live or die like this.
I am holding their families in my heart. I will never stop fighting for common-sense policies that keep guns out of the hands of abusers.
Dr. Cerina Fairfax, Nancy Metayer Bowen, Barbara Deer, and Tammy McCollum. These women were more than just statistics — they were beloved members of their communities, mothers, sisters, grandmothers, and best friends. They deserved to feel safe.
It is both heartbreaking and infuriating that at least four Black women were killed in domestic violence shootings just this month. Their senseless deaths are not isolated incidents: Black women are 3.5 times more likely than white women to be fatally shot by an intimate partner.
My heart is with the mothers and families of these children, and the entire Shreveport community, as they grapple with this immense loss.
Yesterday, a man shot and killed eight children between the ages of 3 to 11 — seven of whom were his own children — in Shreveport, LA. He also shot and critically wounded the children’s mothers.
Keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers protects the lives of millions of women and children.
We are simply gutted over the senseless shooting deaths of eight children, ages 3 to 11, in Shreveport, Louisiana yesterday. The attack was carried out in two separate homes by the father of seven of the children. He also shot and wounded the mothers of the children.
Eight children were shot and killed yesterday in Shreveport, Louisiana. The shooter — armed with a rifle — was the father of seven of the children. He shot and wounded two other people, including his wife and the eighth child’s mother, before he was killed by police.
Every day in the United States, 12 kids and teens are shot and killed, and 48 more are shot and wounded. Our bright futures are being stolen or forever changed by America’s gun violence crisis.
It’s been 27 years since the Columbine High School shooting. That’s:
💔 27 missed birthdays
💔 27 missed holiday seasons
💔 27 years without graduations, weddings, or baby showers
…and much more. I hold the Columbine High School community in my heart. My commitment to #EndGunViolence is in their honor.
Bianca Huntley, a 34-year-old, pregnant mother of two young daughters was senselessly shot and killed while driving home from work near the Atlanta airport.
“You’re talking about a light, a shining light that got snuffed out,” her mother, Gloria Allen shared through tears.
I’m so thankful for the people who help fill my cup so that I can pour back into others. Whether it’s seeing my mom after a long day, going out with my girlfriends, or traveling the country with my team — it’s the small ways we show up for each other every day that make the biggest impact.
Earlier this morning, eight children between the ages of one and fourteen were killed during a mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Kids deserve to feel safe in their communities. We will continue to honor all the lives lost by working to pass gun safety laws.

None of us should be okay with this.
Under the Trump Administration’s guidance, the US Postal Service is moving to let people mail handguns for the first time in a century. But, according to them, the mail isn’t secure enough for ballots? https://etwn.us/3Qc3pyF
