I am excited about more continuous ways to share between these states (on the floor, in buckets, and on the shelf).

Would love to chat more with folks working on #ATscience and scientific schemas to make changes towards more modular and continuous ways of sharing!!

The Open Exchange Architecture is a new standard for science that we are aiming to bring this to life!!

This allows you to import content from an existing composition:

```
import figure from paper
```

Not **solely** focusing on "packaging figures" (although that is still important!!)

Table:

Dimension	First Wave	Second Wave
Core Philosophy	Break apart to share	Package and compose
Researcher Action	File separate deposits	Work natively, modularity emerges
Output State	Disconnected pieces	Connected, navigable graphs
Provenance	Lost or manually added	Inherited and travels with object
System Result	Floor covered in Lego bricks	Multiplicative, compounding progress

Table: Dimension First Wave Second Wave Core Philosophy Break apart to share Package and compose Researcher Action File separate deposits Work natively, modularity emerges Output State Disconnected pieces Connected, navigable graphs Provenance Lost or manually added Inherited and travels with object System Result Floor covered in Lego bricks Multiplicative, compounding progress

The core philosophy is not requiring modularity as a precondition to sharing — separating it into different spaces to deposit it. But to allow the packaging to expose the modularity through the ways that researchers are already working.

The floor — Lego scattered everywhere, ready for building.

To pull from someone else’s data bucket in Tokyo and pull a protocol from Germany and **remix** them with your ideas to build something new, to learn something new, to discover something new.

The 2010’s prescription was to break research into parts, share each one first. But they are also largely designed for after the work is done.

The bar is still too high to share continuously — those small things that add up to all of the tacit knowledge of science.

The shelf — composed artifacts, like Lego trophies. But today status quo demands they are glued together.

I see modular research as oscillating between three states: the floor, the buckets, and the shelves.

Our mission at @continuous.foundation is to move towards more utility and reuse from those **pieces** of research.

Today science is trapped in a paper-shaped box. We might have open-access to read it, but the contents is locked away or not provided (the scripts, methods, visualizations).

Hello OXA:AT - opensci.dev A post about publishing from Curvenote on AT Proto with OXA, published on AT Proto with OXA

Just made my first post from @curvenote.com to my PDS using the AT Proto variant of OXA 🚀🚀🚀. was still working on this when @row1.ca was giving his #ATScience talk yesterday. More about OXA and links to the PDS record in my post.

@mathewlowry.eurosky.social @ronentk.me @atproto.science:

@curvenote.com can now use at-proto backend to publish!!! Yay.

Looking forward to doing what we can to support "Atmospheric Reviews"!!

Let us know how Curvenote can help!

I was showing someone @curvenote.com editor, and had to clarify that we did most of it in 2021 and meant that we did it by hand. So real blood sweat and tears in there. :)

@row1.ca describes how modern science is a collaborative effort, where we build off prior work, but our communication efforts create artifacts that are “glued” together, making it harder to repurpose and build from

Made some #bluesky profile cards for @mystmd.org via the widget interface (widget doesn't feel like right interface, but a handy starting point). Just needed a fetch call to api.bsky.app 🤩 wrote more about it here. more #bsky / #atproto experiments coming.

Thanks for the note @teonbrooks.com ... have been diving into this and changing my thinking about OXA a bit over the last week and how it can interoperate with at-proto and @standard.site.
