This is about shifting power to communities and protecting land & environmental defenders across Africa. The work continues beyond the conference — organizing at home and engaging governments for real change.

Agroecology, food sovereignty, territorial markets & local value chains are central to community resilience and dignity.
We also called for real implementation of UNDROP, UNDRIP & VGGT — with public budgets and strong monitoring — not just policy talk.
Our shared demands:
• Recognition of customary, collective & women’s land rights
• Strong regulation of land-based investments
• Redistribution to reduce inequality
• Restitution for dispossessed communities
Together with social movements, peasants’ platforms, women & youth leaders, pastoralists, fishers, and Indigenous Peoples, we pushed back against land grabbing and land concentration.
African voices united for Land, Water, Territories & Dignity.
At the International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD+20), Habitat Defenders Africa (HDA) worked with partners in the Africa Working Group to make sure community priorities shaped the agenda.
Our call: people-centered agrarian reform, protection for defenders, land restitution, and accountability.
Land, water, and territories are not commodities—they are life and dignity.
HDA stood in solidarity with people in Sudan, Palestine, and the DRC, where ongoing conflicts continue to worsen land dispossession and risks faced by land & environmental defenders.
Communities and defenders spoke about how conflict, land grabbing, and climate impacts are deepening displacement and stripping people of land, water, territories, and dignity.
At International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD+20), HDA joined the Forum of Peoples & Social Movements — United for Land, Water, Territories & Dignity. A space where grassroots voices lead on land justice. ✊🌍
