I actually used to feel like this about anything nintendo!! until I bought a switch. we didn't have any consoles growing up and I have no nostalgia for mario, kirby, sonic or anythin that wasn't on tv or pc.. used to feel fomo, but not anymore.
I don't think you're missing anything. I don't really play the mainline games, they're way too bore. I just love character design and collecting. ~little colourful creatures~ and I did not play growing up! So idk maybe pokemon just doesn't have anything for you?
I haven't been to all areas yet, but it seems it doesn't have all in the beginning. some places I've seen the number 300. BUT there was already a spring event that added three more!

it's newer! and I LOVE to explore new places and learn new things. so RIGHT NOW it's more exciting. but it got repetetive faster. it's not as satisfying. not as beautiful. the music's not as good. the furniture sets are not as diverse. the patterns are.. .. and the dialogue... but it has pokemon!!
after playing pokopia for several weeks now, I've actually come to the conclusion that the things I like about AC are not nearly as good in pokopia. I think ACNH is much better at many things. pokopia is much better than minecraft for me because it's more like ACNH. but it's not better than ACNH.
