Sir Oliver Ingham, d.1344, Seneschal of Gascony, defender of Bordeaux, conqueror of (part of) the Agenais at the beginning of the 100 Years' War, lies uncomfortably on his bed of pebbles in the chancel of Holy Trinity, Ingham, Norfolk, in dappled light.

I've spent much of my life in three locations, these agricultural land classification maps show that grade 3 land predominated, yet here in Norfolk it is mainly arable, in North Somerset mainly pasture, in East Dorset much more arable. All historically were mixed.
Yes, Fanny Duberly was only played for laughs if I remember.
Yes, it's a strange film; very much of its time. As was Hemmings.
I know very little of Nolan, other than what's in the general consciousness, so it's good to hear a bit more about him.
Pavement in front of Becket's shrine in the extended, post-fire east end of Canterbury Cathedral. Astrological/monthly labour roundels clearly reordered and incomplete after being moved post fire. But the Opus Sectile? Cosmati as recently suggested? Hmm. Doesn't look right. Must read Warwick Rodwell

A mind-boggling sculpture! The Portonaccio Sarcophagus vividly depicts Roman cavalry vs. Germanic tribes along the Danube—far from Gladiator's (2000) take. Bonus: it features "battle truncheons," rare in Roman art. #RomanHistory #Archaeology #AncientRome

It runs Castle Acre close as my favourite medieval pulpit in Norfolk
Wow indeed, Isabelle. The Chora is a great treasure, containing the height of late Byzantine art that we know of. I've never been, but I believe it's accessible again now.
And Metochites' hat!
Any other historians of the Crusades here ?

It's the Feast of St Nicholas tomorrow, an important holiday in many parts of Europe.
Here is St Nicholas in late 11thC frescoes in the great Carolingian monastery at Novalesa, high in the Cottian Alps near the Mont Cenis pass above Susa, calming the waters and with St Eldradus, an early Abbot.
Ayshford Chapel, a private chapel built in the 15thC next to the manor house, Ayshford Court, in mid-Devon, near Tiverton. @friendlesschurches.bsky.social
A vase with dead hydrangeas and a bunch of dead roses on a church table in front of a salmon-pink wall.
In beautiful Ayshford Chapel, Devon.
That's a good point. With or without Dave Mason?
I would have liked to have seen Family pre-Burlesque..

Well worth another visit.

The French national geographical institution have just released online the Cassini maps (done by triangulation?) started in 1756 and not finished until after the revolution. www.ign.fr/institut/esp...

Thank you, that's really useful intel. I'm going to head out to that coast again soon, when it's less windy.
So, lettering. For the recent influx of people from the hell site, I carve lettering on stone with a hammer and chisel. Here's a quick read on how and why:

If it's replaced, or even just complemented, by a politically-aligned, ideologically-motivated militia, then it's a very bad thing.

A squacco heron in long grass on the bank of the Chobe river, has speared a small black fish.
Yup, I'm still culling and editing images from Botswana. This squacco heron with breakfast is for @everyheron.bsky.social :)
