This is horrific, and incredibly disappointing, from Navratilova.

I liked that one too. It does rather make one feel that the field if economic history would have progressed faster over the last few decades if Chapter 31 of Das Kapital had been more prominent in graduate training than, for instance, Douglas North.

The framing deserves to be torn apart, I also think there's something interesting here in the word "elite" and the way it slips among wealth and other kinds of privilege/status. IANA Manhattan elite but I imagine the financial elite and cultural elite are quite different categories...

It’s not too late to register to vote! I remember supporting a candidate who lost by 6 votes. That’s how close it can be in local elections. Don’t know where to sign up? Here is the link www.gov.uk/register-to-...

Excerpt from an FT article quoting Yellen saying, "How often does the president of a developed country express the view that the interest rate should be set to reduce the debt service cost? This is what you hear in a banana republic."

"What are we, a POOR country? In the GLOBAL SOUTH?"

Surely we can discuss threats to Fed independence and the appropriate justifications for interest rate cuts -- and we must! -- without this kind of rhetoric.

I think I'm coming to view LLMs as essentially being the Fae.
The Fae are usually seen as not having souls, and therefore not having consciousness in a way we can recognize;
they don't understand the difference between lies and truth, kindness and cruelty;

Crowd of Green Supporters in Reigate

Reigate is, traditionally, True Blue. But something strange has been happening over the last few years (yes, even before the lovely @zackpolanski.bsky.social became our leader). Reigate has been turning Green.

Delivering on your priorities:
Protecting our green belt
Improving our roads
Better local healthcare
Securing SEND support
Backing local businesses

Local Tory MP sends out a flyer on a green background with no mention of her party affiliation or her obsessive anti-trans campaigning. A sign of the times?

The US military has 22 sites in the UK.

Every day long range US bombers are taking off here to drop bombs on Iran.

This is a rogue state carrying out war crimes, and threatening more.

The UK Government must grow a spine - and stop our bases being used for this war.

A functioning legislature would impeach and remove a President acting the way Trump has been acting the past few days.

He could be impeached and tried in an hour. Done.

The Republican leadership in Congress are weak, dishonorable men who put a narcissist before nation.

Shame on them all.

I used to write the WaPo editorials on US-Africa policy, as well on as human rights and politics on the continent.

To describe hundreds of thousands of deaths on the continent as “messy” is an absolute abomination.

The background is a gradient of a trans flag. In the middle there is a photo with a person holding up "I'm just as real as you" with a trans flag painted onto the cardboard behind the text. The foreground reads "Reflections on... Trans Day of Visibility 2026" and has a prompt to swipe (though this is more for Instagram's sake).

The imprint on the bottom states the photo is from What The Trans!?. Many thanks again for them letting us use their photos. We also have the legal imprint: Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London, SE16 9GQ

A trans flag gradient border, with black text on a white background. This is page one of the statement. The statement reads: "It’s the 31st March 2026. Trans Day of Visibility. In a bygone era, it was a day where our trans siblings would rejoice, because they finally have a day to be visible. For some, it’s a great day to finally come out to family members - a day to share who they are and to celebrate joy in being themselves, free from parental or societal expectations.

This year, it feels very different. Visibility, it would appear, is a double-edged sword. The same visibility that brings us joy is the same visibility that has made us a target of vitriol and hate, and the subject of political points-scoring. The same visibility that shines a light on our community and our struggles brings us news article after news article, desperately and zealously pushing the public to turn on their peers.

Trans Day of Visibility has become talked about by mainstream politicians, media outlets and institutions, and the consequence is that the day is hollowed out. Some politicians, media outlets or institutions might have good intentions, but a deeply rooted suspicion now exists within the trans community that when it comes to trans rights, it’s a matter of when, not if, the betrayal comes."

A trans flag gradient border, with black text on a white background. This is page two of the statement. The statement reads: "Visibility has given us so much, but in the current political climate, it’s brought us grief. We observe Trans Day of Visibility despite the attacks that exist on our community. Some of our committee members have spent the lead-up to Trans Day of Visibility desperately trying to prevent a motion brought to Darlington District Council that seeks to use the Supreme Court ruling to justify a ban on some women entering women's spaces. Visibility was not the reason for this attack - prejudice is, though sadly visibility can mean we feel the impact of these attacks more.

As a newly elected committee, on Trans Day of Visibility, we re-affirm our commitment to trans rights. Our trans, non-binary and intersex peers massively depend on the ability for our elected politicians in Council and Parliamentary chambers to deliver for LGBTIQA+ people. Visibility itself is not liberation. We must protect our rights from erosion, and we absolutely will.

On Trans Day of Visibility, our committee reflects on the day, and how this year it feels very different, in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling, among other very well documented attacks on our community.

The lesson of the previous energy crisis: Price interventions have to stop ripple effects before they start. This is about buying time for emergency adjustments. European democracies cannot afford another round of falling real wages and war profiteering.

but the USSR is not just a placeholder for contemporary political disputes. the USSR was a real place that really happened. *understanding* how it happened--how the bolsheviks succeeded, how it all went so wrong, and why it eventually fell apart--is not just a way to signal identity.

it is USEFUL.

Gilt markets since yesterday's BoE hawkishness underscore the unfairness of this criticism of @zackpolanski.bsky.social. Absent alternative inflation-fighting mechanisms, a price shock means Bank Rate rises to deal with 'second-round' effects, and thus one gets higher gilt yields.
