All models are wrong; many models are useless
Yes, to be clear, so do I. And I resent the implication that caring about the health of me and my students means I don’t care about their learning outcomes.
(But maybe I’m just a lunatic who doesn’t care about my students’ learning outcomes, idk)
Agree.
Also p sure it was a tiny set of ppl who wanted online classes made permanent. More serious group of ppl wanted air filtration/ventilation, masking, and staying home when ill normalised.
Given the systematic damage repeat Covid infections are doing to ppls health, still doesn’t seem crazy.

I had a lot of fun the other day giving a workshop on the modern DID revolution at Syracuse University's Maxwell School — thank you @adam42smith.bsky.social for hosting!
I have posted the slides to my website at amandakweiss.com/did if anyone is interested.
The current purge and mass exclusion of immigrants by the US Administration is not about legality, and never was, but is the imposition of an extremist vision of who can or should be American.
The minimalist definition of democracy is actually the right one if our goal is to measure and compare systematically and at scale across diverse contexts.

Just want a stable democratic arrangement with an emphasis on liberty and equal opportunity, a strong culture of innovation and creative destruction, and a housing market affordable enough to have a little left over to waste on my innumerable hobbies.
Yes I think the magic of Reddit is moderation. That said, Reddit has a lot of other problems imo, quite distinct from the maladies of bsky and twitter.
And LinkedIn is just so silly.
I just have a policy that I don’t reply to anonymous accounts. Of course I get insulted for that policy by anonymous accounts, but there it is
Yes I am very sure anonymity is a big problem. Plus LinkedIn is just more janky which I think slows down pile-ons.
I was a bully in my youth so I am quite good at recognizing bullying.
There’s quite a lot of bullying on here, just like there is/was a lot of it on twitter. Real ringleader-bully energy.
Unfortunately suspect this is just how this type of social media is. Seems to happen less on Reddit/linkedin.
The US Administration is implementing its $100,000 tax on entry by high-skill foreign workers.
It's by far the largest tariff on services trade in history.
A single document has emerged to make the Administration's economic case for the tax. Incredibly, it is packed with basic, large errors.
