I'm sure folks who grew up more accustomed to the world of mobile games will say it just resembles that and it's perfectly normal, but I've long hated what was done to the mobile game ecosystem and still only play "pay once, play forever" games. I don't want the mobile game ecosystem in VRC.
The world is literally designed in such a way that VIPs are able to visit an area suspended above where the commonfolks are by a glass floor, staring down at them.
I just don't like the vibe of this at all. It's a fun little thing to do, but holy shit it's pushing way too hard.
I really don't respect the way they've tried to take this simple little fidget game and shoehorn monetization wherever they could. Buttons that look just like other toggles but that are VBucks upsell links, VIP areas with a complete second copy of the world in them so folks get excluded, etc. 🫤
I finally got around to checking out A Game About Crates on VRC and I gotta say...there's a line between an idle game with little supporter perks, and a thinly veiled Skinner Box with dark UX, hostile design patterns and monetization baked into every little corner, and this errs toward the latter.

This is exactly the shit I'm talking about. TheMugBug, a gay furry Twitch streamer who mains a Rexouium in VR (naturally), hits the R word pretty hard in conversation, and just this morning went to great lengths gushing over Chick-Fil-A.

It's everywhere I look these days. Queer furries who throw the R-word around like it's candy, who "don't get all the hate" about Chick-Fil-A and "go there all the time", who still stream the Harry Potter game or buy HP merch.

If you do drink alcohol or a ton of caffeine, hey you do you. I'm just happy that the many many folks who can't or don't want to consume caffeine or alcohol can still experience these things and not be totally left out. That's a really cool application of modern technology imo. :)
I think this kinda parallels the rise in really high-flavor non-alcoholic beer options, including NA craft brews that you can enjoy just for their interesting flavor profile.
I think the more we can let folks experience flavors without being tied to drug consumption, the better all around.
As part of my recent coffee adventures, I've tried out several modern decaf blends, and I gotta say it's awesome how much work has gone into making decaf that tastes outstanding, through new processes like water filtering and supercritical CO2. They're all but indistinguishable from caffeinated now.
