I haven't posted in ages, so here we are. I did a Substack and wrote stuff! Enjoy at your own peril, there's serious in there. 💙

The grownup version of “the floor is lava” is “it appears I’ve gotten dressed to go out too soon and now I have to somehow exist in my home for 12 whole minutes without touching anything covered in pet hair”

Don't beat yourself up about how long you've been away from your writing practice.

The important thing is to go back.

Tonight, why not read the last pages you wrote?

It is a meme re-write of a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean

Mr Gibbs says "Aye, so you've finished outlining your novel?"

Captain Jack Sparrow replies "No. Much more better. I've come up with the vague concepts of a story supported by a scene I vividly imagined while listening to a song."

I’ve been working since I was 14. Other things always got in the way of writing.

No longer.

Nothing will get in way of writing save for death.

And I require Death to have a note from God before taking me.

Don’t forget that your writing is valid even if no one has read it. Writing it is enough.

The Pillars of Creation, towering columns of gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula, captured in stunning detail by the James Webb Space Telescope. These pillars are stellar nurseries where new stars are born, located about 6,500 light-years away.

The most effective editing move is still the one I stole from George Saunders: read your draft over and over and over again, out loud, until you have to fix the bad parts because you will literally die if you have to read them more time
