what actually determines how well received art will be is if the creator/s have significant clout, if the work was widely marketed, and if it appeals to what's currently popular/the creator/s existing audience
luck also plays a part but luck can be amplified by hitting the above 3 points

i might be too cynical since i've been selling my stories for too long but generally i think 'if you don't love your art how can anybody else' is a p silly sentiment
i think a creator's feelings about their own work is completely irrelevant and has 0 bearing on whether other ppl will like it
