I agree with your reasoning. Still deciding which Dem I will vote for, but I do know it won’t be Steyer.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.
That appears to be the thinking behind the 2027 budget request to Congress that President Donald Trump unveiled today. https://scim.ag/4sRnw3x

If Trump signs an unconstitutional Executive Order to take over voting, we will sue. I don't bluff and I usually win.

"I Wrote Research Funding Announcements for NIH for 22 Years. This Year They’ve Published 14. How NIH went from 756 funding announcements to 14 in two years — and what it means for every disease that depends on federal research" elizabethginexi.substack.com/p/i-wrote-re...
Holy cow, our R01 got 4th percentile 😳

A line graph of the number of projects funded by NIH for fiscal years 2020-2026. The fiscal year 2026 curve lies below the other curves but appears to be increasing at close to the normal pace.

Good observations from @drugmonkey.bsky.social about early stage investigators (or at least Director Bhattacharya's comments on a podcast about them).

Congress rejected massive cuts to US science budgets for 2026, but much of the money still isn’t flowing to researchers.
The culprit? The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is quietly slow-walking the release of funds. 🧵👇

College son calls me late one night with questions about a coding assignment.
Me: When was this assigned?
Son: Last week.
Me: And you’re doing it now at the last minute?!?!?!
Son: It’s not last minute, it’s not due until tomorrow.
Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace.
Indeed. New grants are not getting funded, already funded grants are not getting paid, and non-competitive renewals are being held up.
Focusing on the top line budget, instead of looking at what is really happening on “the ground” is deeply misguided.
Gotta admit, I’m somewhat heartened by this recent post (not WHAT it is reporting but that it IS reporting):

I just applied for a passport renewal. The cost was $149 including postage. Requiring a passport or similar proof of citizenship to vote is thus a poll tax. The SAVE Act before the Senate asks to do just that.
Call your Senators at 202-224-3121 and tell them NO SAVE ACT
For those of you who are interested, I just pushed a draft of the final chapter of Better Code, Better Science: bettercodebetterscience.github.io/book/ - now I just have to go back and rewrite the AI coding chapter which is already outdated just five months after writing it!
Looking to recruit a postdoc for a June 1 or later start date. Details below. Familiarity/experience in PET imaging and quantification is most desired.
