This is why surgical masks were inadequate -Covid was airborne & we were told to wear gappy surgical masks & handwash for a predominantly airborne virus. A lot of the impacts from lockdown could also be from mild or asymptomatic COVID infections caught in the supermarket or hospital or bubble!

Surgical masks have gaps, they are used for droplet surface transmission only not airborne transmission. We should have been told to wear ffp2/3 respirators which seal to the face. There was no advice on opening windows or cleaning the air. Advice that could have prevented countless
The Covid inquiry stated 16 days ago that the guidance was ‘flawed’ Covid is officially airborne. So that means the surgical masks worn would not give much protection in poorly ventilated places. It was so stuffy in the vaccine centre I visited I stood on a chair and opened the window.

It’s been a long journey but CATA has been vindicated by the COVID Inquiry. But will government and NHS leaders/ CMOs do anything about IPC guidance which is unfit for purpose.
We hope that our detailed submissions to the Inquiry and our independent investigation reports will be of help to the thousands of people impacted by the pandemic and have suffered ill health or bereavement resulting from flawed and incompetent planning and IPC measures.
CATA was only granted Core Participant status for Module 3.
As that report has now been published we have now fulfilled our task.

Extract from The UK Covid Inquiry Report, Module 3: 'The UK’s approach to infection prevention and control in healthcare settings during the Covid-19 pandemic suffered from three fundamental flaws: Assumptions about respiratory viruses: There was an over-reliance on historical assumptions about how to distinguish between modes of transmission for respiratory viruses. This led to an initial misunderstanding of the level of risk posed by aerosol transmission and a failure to recommend sufficient protections against it. Insufficient caution: Alternative routes of transmission other than droplet or contact were prematurely ruled out. This meant that pre-existing assumptions that Covid-19 was not ordinarily spread by aerosols became the received wisdom until the contrary was proved. Why are UK officials more concerned with “not panicking the public” and sticking to droplet dogma, the same deadly mistake they made with Covid, instead of informing the public properly of precautions to take, like masking to protect against dangerous meningitis infection? 🤬
