I can accept if a junior tells me they don’t know why something is not working, but I can’t accept it when they tell me they don’t know why something DO work.

Is it only me?

Is hiring a good enough reason to do a full app rewrite from

Yay or Nay?

Man, the amount of scam devs that reach out to you when you post anything on tech #discord is fucking impressive

Would you let an AI agent merge to prod on a Friday?

I spent yesterday playing with #Codex and was blown away at how easily it handled the chore tasks. Should I go the extra mile and grant it merge rights after a self-review?

Selling to yourself: the private equity groups that buy companies they own Private equity groups are increasingly buying companies that they already own. But critics point to conflicts of interest within these deals that allow managers to reap great financial rewards

This is quite old news: www.ft.com/content/1154...

I wonder how to check if and how much this has gotten worse between 2023 and today.

Hey everyone,

Can you please point me to the smartest engineer you know? I'd love to chat about how to deal with #techdebt and #DevExp in early stage startups!

There was a time during the early WWW where you could really hurt automated scanning tools and skiddies. Those who wanted to h4ck your web apps using Paros proxy, SQLmap, Havij (although that was mostly backdoored), all relied on HTTP response codes.

HTTP 200 ok
HTTP 500

The other point is that generally speaking using your brain burn calories and you experience something similar to physical fatigue. This is why you feel sleepy/tired when learning a new language or playing chess.

There are several papers about this, most of them are summarised in “Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker. The TLDR is that one of the functions of sleep is memory consolidation/integration so when you are studying your brain really want you to sleep to go over that consolidation process

I love the level of trolling of Mr. Kartoffeln.

Get the word “Casa” right but “Mamma” wrong, to ruin the 2 most precious things and Italian have. Chaotic evil.

I mean, I’m absolutely terrified to jump back into the JS ecosystem of infinite tools and frameworks, dependency management, fucking node_modules and all that. But it seems really the best choice for both hiring and developer productivity

Tell me now why I shouldn’t rewrite my entire backend and frontend into a TS monorepo. #typescript

This is normal! It’s related to how the brain stores new knowledge. The best you can do is to actually take that 15min Power Nap.

A cartoon titled ‘The Life of a Scientist’.

(The life is depicted as a set of steps, three up then three down with a character on each)

Baby: Such a mysterious world!
Child: I must search for answers
Young adult: Each answer leads me to more questions
Middle age: ... At least I've got lots of questions
Old age: Ok, I guess questions are my thing now
From grave: Such a mysterious world!

We can state that the liberal world order has long disappeared — we simply chose not to notice that. Now, it is time to look at things realistically and adapt to the new reality.

We do not yet know what the new world order will look like. It is emerging now, out of wars and conflicts⤵️
