One pound of ground beef now costs more on average than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.
American Public Health Association, our singular national body, came out publicly for total carceral system abolition (prisons, policing, immigration detention) 6 years ago.
Our pilot said the tower was evacuated because of smoke. No estimate on when controllers will return to tower so flights can start taking off
Stuck on the runway in my plane and they said the air traffic control tower has been evacuated for an unknown reason. There’s a full ground stop on flights from BWI, IAD, DCA, CHO, and RIC. nasstatus.faa.gov
Illinois Democrats and health advocates gathered Monday in Chicago to highlight the impact of the Affordable Care Act — signed by then President Barack Obama 16 years ago — while sounding the alarm on rising health care costs for Americans. https://to.wttw.com/4bK2rk4
If he's going to get a national profile on the strength of a younger woman's campaign, I'm going to come out and say it: during his short-lived tenure as a math professor, Biss had an inappropriate romantic relationship with one of his undergraduate students. I was that student.

A New York bill would ban AI from answering questions related to several licensed professions like medicine, law, dentistry, nursing, psychology, social work, engineering, and more.
The companies would be liable if the chatbots give “substantive responses” in these areas.

Is it good or bad when government lawyers are in federal court telling judges that their jobs suck and begging for a full night's sleep
Republicans love adding seats to state Supreme Courts! They've done it three times in recent years. This latest court-packing plan will shift Utah's high court far to the right and possibly flip rulings on abortion and gerrymandering.
Democrats should take note that Rs have deemed this acceptable!
JUST IN: Democrats flip a red seat in the Texas Senate.
Taylor Rehmet wins against Leigh Wambsganss, a conservative activist who helped lead right-wing efforts to take over TX school boards.
With all early vote, and 95% of precincts, in, Dem up 57/43.
Trump won this seat by 17% in Tarrant County.
Wambsganss’ campaign is also being supported by some of the state’s most powerful political groups and donors. Finance disclosures show that, through January 15, Wambsganss has received nearly $2.3 million. Of that total, slightly more than half has come from three groups: Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick’s Texas Senate Leadership Fund; Texans for Lawsuit Reform, a political action committee that represents big business interests; and Texans United for a Conservative Majority, which is primarily funded by Dunn, the far-right oil billionaire. Rehmet has, over the same time period, raised roughly $346,000—most of it coming from donations of $100 or less.

Taylor Rehmet raised $346,000, most of it coming from donations of $100 or less. His biggest donor gave him $12K, and a bunch of local unions also cut him larger checks.
The plan to use AI has alarmed some at DOT, which regulates everything from air travel to pipelines.
Why, some staffers wondered, would the government outsource the writing of critical standards to a new technology notorious for making mistakes?

Like is establishing certain rights into law meaningful when the most basic rights everyone agreed on for so long are being blatantly ignored?
like are these achievements still meaningful when the first, second, and fourth amendments are being ignored by federal masked goons patrolling the streets with guns, murdering people in broad daylight? Yes they are, but they feel less important now I guess
I am feeling so mega depressed. It’s very odd to me that my work on lgbtq+ equality in state legislatures continues on (differently, more carefully, but still continues) even though we are in a fascist police state that is murdering ppl for exercising their constitutional rights
back in my day you could see a concert for $30
