It should not be possible to go 65 mph on a residential street

“Do you think a traffic model invented bike lanes? No. People got on their bikes, rode them down the street and died, again and again, until bike lanes became a thing.”
An excellent piece. I received a similarly toned response to my comment from the @massdot.bsky.social project team.
“Bike in the street, loser” - @wutrain.bsky.social
The curb management in Boston is just abysmal. Delivery drivers need to do their jobs and now that @mayorwu.boston.gov has had all bike lane delineators ripped out, drivers block them with impunity. What is the plan here @streets.boston.gov? Where is our #BostonBikeNetwork?
More productive and more progressive on street safety... Now we just have @mayorwu.boston.gov and @massdcr.bsky.social competing on who can create the most car-friendly, pedestrian-hostile roads.
We’ll know upzoning went too far when the landlords go broke, until then keep loosening restrictions on supply.
“The state law, to speak frankly, has just created these incredibly dumb conflicts that no one supports,” councilor Ben Ewen-Campen said
@benforward3.bsky.social can you clarify what you mean by this? I definitely support ADUs of all sizes.

Zicla planters give good protection with green features
Cast in place concrete looking fantastic and protective
This seems like a very non-standard installation of ziclas compared to any other I've seen. It's kind of the worst of all worlds, bc they are so spaced out, drivers can ignore them, & also they like they will be a hazard for cyclists
Zicla makes these planters that look great. OR JUST USE CONCRETE
Concrete protection is better, but even flex posts are shown to significantly reduce crashes and injuries. They also reduce the amount of people parked in the bike lane.
Anyone got some metal poles they want to cement into those holes on top?
Because @mayorwu.boston.gov doesn’t want permanent safe infrastructure, she wants parking/idling lanes. That is the only possible reason to remove perfect condition flex posts for zebras that are easier to drive over.
When has Healey come out with strong preference for BEBs over catenary? She has largely (and rightfully) deferred to and empowered Eng to make the best decisions regarding transportation. He has plenty of public trust and political capital to string catenary if he wanted to.
By having a spine and saying it is the only way to achieve zero emission public transit that all electeds in the MBTA area support. Either string wires or burn diesel.
I don't really buy that. They purchased hyper-customized battery busses to replace the Harvard network. Plus, the Silver Line catenary was abandoned under Eng's tenure. He could have expanded the catenary there if he wasn't under the delusion of weightless, cold-proof, costless batteries.
The T removed catenary from the Silver Line Way tunnel under his tenure, he is fully on the wrong side of electrification strategy.
How could @wutrain.bsky.social see this polling data, her resounding election victory backing the data, and decide making streets less safe is the best priority for her second term?
If it existed in my neighborhood I’d gladly pay the city $5/month in rent for a weatherproof bike locker at sidewalk level. Would be huge for people on upper levels of triple deckers who don’t want to haul their bike upstairs.
I would say more bioswales or trees but I’m assuming we don’t want to dig up freshly poured sidewalk. Maybe public art or some sort of small community amenity. Or long term sheltered bike storage pilot for nearby residents like these lockers at Lechmere?
Rough day to be optimistic about anything but it's just been so disappointing to have worked so hard to elect @wutrain.bsky.social and supported her safe streets policies to have her SHUT IT ALL DOWN and illegally ignore public records requests
Did we actually elect Josh Kraft?
Sad because CT2 was part of the vision for the loop line that slowly died on the vine without investment from the T. What do we do with the brand new 85 stops on Spring Hill that won’t be used anymore?
@mayorwu.boston.gov & @streets.boston.gov can you confirm if the protected bike lanes in this project are still moving forward as planned?
@mass.streetsblog.org
The name does make it sound like flex posts so an understandable mixup. I figured you’d be interested because this is the only legal automated enforcement option we have until the legislature gets its act together.
SafetyStick is the automated ticketing technology that is in use in a few locations to ticket drivers who park in crosswalks or bus stops. www.bostonglobe.com/2023/11/15/m...
Is this associated with @councilorclingan.bsky.social’s order from last week? Regardless I love to see it! Is there anything volunteers should bring (rakes, trash bins, gloves, etc)?
Sure, but put them in the general purpose auto lane. Same with those sidewalk delivery bots, which block already narrow sidewalks and make them inaccessible. No reason for them to take the slim 3-6ft of ROW for peds/bikes when there is 50+ ft for 4 wheeled vehicles.
