It is not true that "transgender" is abbreviated as "tora" in Japanese. The abbreviation of transgender (トランスジェンダー) is トランス ("toransu").

A screenshot of tweet from Mishima Kitan that was posted on April 3, 2024. The post reads: "虎 ("tora" = tiger(s)) are sometimes used as mascots by JP trans people because "transgender" in JP is トランスジェンダー ("toransujendah"). One such example of JP trans mascot usage of tiger: Kinky Transgender Meeting in Kinki Region (around Osaka)." The post is a wuotee retweet of a post from Kinki Trans Meeting (@kintra_cafe on Twitter) which features a transgender flag with trans-flag-colored tiger.

I felt the need to point the above mistake in particular because it feels like the original source of information is MY Twitteer post from 2024.
