Things I did today instead of doomscrolling
1. Buried a dead sparrow
2. Thrifted a stone hot water bottle (like my granny had)
3. Began reading 'Dadland'
4. Remembered I live in Spiderland
5. Continued to enjoy the flowers (see post below)

Today my intern from 15 years ago is getting married, and I get to do the toast. Over the years he became one of my dearest friends and read at my wedding, ages ago.

While publishing won’t love you back, the people in it sometimes will. ❤️

Fair. I think my teacher heart responded to its simplicity/name-calling, actually. :) The struggle around AI in English classrooms is real. There were some crisp phrases ("Humanity sucks," lol) that I thought might land with kids better than lecturing them about cognitive erosion.

May I suggest if you teach middle school or higher that if you instruct in a place where there are plentiful clocks, analog or otherwise, you make a sign that says "I DO NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION 'WHAT TIME IS IT'"

“Sometimes I catch a speck of gold or silver on my cloth as I wipe dust from beside the posters of eyes he hung in his room—why so wide open, what is he looking for?—and wish I could put the speck back.”

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette announces it has found a buyer to keep the newspaper open Owners of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said they have found a buyer who had agreed to keep the newspaper open, less than a month before it was due to shut down.

The nonprofit that runs the successful, Pulitzer-winning Baltimore Banner is going to take over the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Of all the possible outcomes here, this is likely the best we could have hoped for.

Genuine question: do you think they sat around a table and discussed this as a coherent strategy? I'm always of several minds. It's so stupid that it seems stupid to put their stupidity down to just stupidness.
