I've been in there twice and always had poor luck with the beer. Couple of diacetyl bombs last time.

It was 45kc for a litre though.

It was Staropramen 10(Smichov) in Hany Bany. Plus the unfiltered Staropramen too.

Same. Probably been a good 10 years since I've had it. Must revisit.

Heineken was my guess. Needs to be a large enough brewery that can supply all their stores in Britain and Ireland and they need to have a widget capable nitro canning line.

When Heineken rolled out the skim carry on in Ireland they advised it was to remove the most bitter part of the head... 🙄

Worked years in a bar selling it and I'd try it everyone so often to see what the fuss was about but I could never even find it acceptable, compared to other macro lagers. Haven't had it in years but I think it's the malt sweetness I didn't like. I'll try again...

A terrible lager. Like most national brands, seems to exist on nostalgia and market dominance rather than on being a good beer.

Need to get Grianán on the list. (I presume Kinnegar already is)

Fresh Orval is best. Don't think aging does it any favours.

Sometimes a nosey round the side where they stack the kegs can give ye clues.

Never heard of this mix before but it's absolutely delicious in this heat.

Doing God's work there. I've avoided Desperados since my one and only sample of it around 14 years ago. I will continue to do so.

Absolutely talk about the surrender principle and quasi-monopoly, but have photos and reviews of Diageo beers just seems strange for an article on Belfast. Everyone already knows there's Guinness available...

For an article on Belfast there's a remarkable number of mentions and photos of Diageo/Heineken beer, and pubs that don't sell a drop of Belfast beer.

Hate the game, not the player? There's a few pubs who haven't bought into the system at least.

We've a long way to go here unfortunately. Vast majority of bars don't bother stocking any decent beer at all.

Great bar. Nice trad music usually too.
