Peer Review at the Crossroads Peer review has long been regarded as a cornerstone of scholarly communication, ensuring high quality and credibility of published research. Although academic journals trace their origins back three ...

New paper out: "Peer Review at the Crossroads"

I analyzed 4 peer review models from traditional gatekeeping to Publish-Review-Curate. Key finding: no single model is ideal, but PRC shows promise for transparency & accessibility.

New preprint on arXiv: “Who Owns the Knowledge? Copyright, GenAI, and the Future of Academic Publishing”. I argue that training GenAI on scholarly outputs should not be treated as a fair use exception.

Leading Israeli author David Grossman calls Gaza war a 'genocide' ***

"I want to speak as a person who has done everything he could to avoid having to call Israel a genocidal state. And now, with immense pain and a broken heart, I have to say that it is happening before my eyes. Genocide.”

Impact of Registered Revisions Publication pre-commitment devices such as Preregistration, Registered Reports, and Registered Revisions may substantially reduce publication biases, prepublication biases (e.g. p-hacking and HARKING)...

'Registered Revisions is a policy that activates when peer reviewers request new data or analyses. Instead of ad hoc revisions, authors draft a revision plan which, if approved, grants in-principle acceptance (IPA).'

Intriguing and worth reading even if I find it hard to judge how meaningful is Ben’s Bridging Metric. Very much enjoyed the Hamming quote: “I cannot prove the cause-and-effect relationship; I can only observe the correlation”, which seems to me to apply to a lot of metascience questions! ;-)

In a recent interview for China Social Sciences Daily, I critiqued how university rankings reduce education to a numbers game, ignoring teaching, social impact, and the unique DNA of each institution.
