Over the weekend: Strong passage of Black-tailed Godwits a flock of 45-50 Kittiwakes on the local patch on Saturday plus my 1st Whimbrel of the year, then my 1st terns of the year and a few auks/Kittiwakes during my Clyde Estuary @webs-gsmp.bsky.social count #BirdingScotland #ClydeBirding
Spring birding update: 1st Grasshopper Warbler and Whitethroat on the local patch today in Erskine, plus more Swallows and House Martins now back. #BirdingScotland #ClydeBirding
Photo of the South of Scotland regional ballot paper for the Scottish election on 7th May 2026. Added text identifies the "INDEPENDENT GREEN VOICE" as "NOT the Green Party" and "SCOTTISH GREEN PARTY" as "The actual Green Party".
Anyone who received their postal ballot today in the South of Scotland region, please be aware that "Independent Green Voice", which appears second on the list on the peach regional ballot paper, is NOT the Scottish Green Party. This is in fact a deliberate vote spoiling attempt by right-wingers.
Little Gull, Scaup, Greenshank and Black-tailed Godwits among the other good birds noted on the patch in the last few days #BirdingScotland
Spring birding update: Willow Warblers, Blackcaps and Sand Martins back on the local patch in good numbers over this week along with small numbers of Wheatears, Swallows, Common Sandpipers and 1 early House Martin
Honestly, banning horse racing is an excellent idea that we should be doing
Spring birding update: my 1st Willow Warbler of the year today! π
Blackcaps very early this year and already well in around the local patch. Also an exodus of Pink-footed Geese and Whooper Swans over the long Easter weekend
"The oil crisis is exactly what the net zero brigade wants"
These people have a funny way of saying "Environmentalists have been proved right yet again."
This is completely insane, lads. Itβs not her thatβs obsessed with anything, it the tiny gaggle of absolute headbangers who have not stopped screaming at her about it for five years. *You* are the wackos here, not her.
My 1st Wheatear and Sand Martins of the year today, and my 1st butterflies of the year
during the last few days. It's officially spring for me and we've made it through winter! #spring #birding
If we made the green energy transition this war would be unthinkable and these authoritarians wouldnβt be in power β not in the US, not in Iran, not in Saudi Arabia, not in Russia. Hydrocarbons are killing our freedom and just plain killing us.
A new report shows hitting our climate targets by 2050 costs less than one oil shock costs the UK.
We need a rapid transition to clean energy to shield people & the economy from price spikes every time oil prices jump.
Some commentators still canβt connect those dotsβ¦
Not only would I be happy to replace Churchill on fivers with a badger, I'd replace the Churchill statue in Parliament Square with a big bronze badger AND I'd replace Ed Davey with an ACTUAL badger coz it'd probably vote in less austerity.
Just another normal day on toilet island. I get that Kemi's brain is liquid mush but ever for her this is dumb
a lot of comments this morning about the rate at which old buildings in Glasgow go up in flames so I just want to say: as a bystander with no direct knowledge of this fire, but a good bit of knowledge about old buildings burning, i donβt think this one is sketchy.

This is what ecocide looks like.
there are like 50 people in the country who want the UK to get involved in the Iran War, one of them is Kemi Badenoch, one of them is Nigel Farage, and the other 48 are newspaper columnists
Dear Shabana, I notice today that you referred to me in your speech on immigration at the IPPR think tank. You said: βA party leader should not be on the beaches of France encouraging people to make a perilous crossing on small boats.β I suppose I shouldnβt be surprised especially after the hateful Labour campaign in Gorton and Denton, but this is just the latest in a string of lies peddled by a discredited Government who intentionally fan the flames of racism and division. When I went to Calais, I was not there to encourage people to travel to the UK. I was there to see at first hand the suffering your Government and successive Governments have done in demonising migrants in a pathetic bid to pander to the base instincts of Reform and the flawed strategy of Morgan McSweeney. As you will know, if you even bothered to research my visit instead of taking Reform talking points, I was there to witness the brutality of families living in tents in freezing temperatures. I filled water tanks and picked up litter. What that visit did do is confirm my belief that if we are to smash the boat gangs and stop the boats, we need to offer safer and managed routes for migrants to come to this country. Showing compassion as a politician is not a crime. In fact, we need to see much more of it. It reminded me of a young MP who in October 2015 spent three days in Lesbos helping migrants fleeing war-torn Syria. She posted videos on X, talked about handing out water and croissants to refugees and food parcels. When she returned to the UK, she wrote a very moving piece in the New Statesman. She said βwe have to work with our European partners and create new, safe, and legal routes for refugees to get to Europe. We cannot abandon them to their fate, left as prey for smugglers whilst risking death on the seas.β She said βmaybe we can make ourselves feel better by saying no-one is making them get on the boats. And again, the Home Secretary is not entirely wrong when β¦
Dear Shabana,
Let's clear some things up around migration and remember we're talking about people's lives.
Joani Reid MP @JoaniReid Proud to meet four heroes in Parliament today. Sandie Peggie, the Darlington Nurses and Jennifer Melle. They have shown tremendous courage and bravery in challenging a warped ideology and a culture of virtue signalling that rewards institutional cowardice. Thankfully, the tide is
Joani Reid MP @JoaniReid Our Home Affairs Select Committee report on the Maccabi Tel Aviv fan ban has been published. An extraordinary and unjustified decision that exposed serious failures within West Midlands Police.
Joani Reid MP @JoaniReid My column in the Herald on Sunday: the Scottish grooming gangs inquiry is welcome. We must also confront how our third sector has become institutionally corrupted to the point where it sides with SNP ministers instead of standing with women and girls
Joani Reid MP @JoaniReid Follow The SNP are taking the biscuit. They chose to turn Glasgow into sanctuary for asylum seekers through their own virtue-signalling policies, and now they want the Home Office to bail them out.
for anyone wondering why thereβs so much unbridled joy on ScotPol Bluesky about the arrest of a Scottish Labour MPβs husband for spying for China, take your pick

Looking out across the open water of the Firth of Forth, with the Forth Rail and Road bridges in the distance. A telescope and a wall are in the foreground.
Finally snapped and went to twitch the White-billed Divers in Fife, and lucked in with 2 showing distantly but clearly from Dalgety Bay this morning. A lifer for me, very impressed with them as they looked like Great Northerns on steroids! #BirdingScotland
Just loving the Green Party victory today! Haven't had as good a morning as this for a while, watching the Labour and nazi parties eat shit plus the UKs right wing toilet media having a colossal meltdown
Yes... ha ha ha... yes!
only the greens can stop reform, a vote for labour is utterly wasted right now, they are collapsing everywhere
A pair of Wigeon sitting on the water's surface, with the female bird holding her head partially underwater
A blustery and very quiet WeBS count on the Clyde Estuary last Sunday. Numbers of everything were ranging from poor to non-existent, with most numbers staying low all winter. At least this pair of Wigeon were showing nicely #BirdingScotland #ClydeBirding @webs-gsmp.bsky.social
Reform: There's too much state interference.
Also Reform: We will force you to marry, stop you getting divorced, make you have babies, dictate your religious beliefs, control your sexuality, penalise you if you are disabled and deport you if you don't look right.
