Arrival of the Norwegians: Early Kings and The Family of Ketil Flatnose In this post I want to turn once again towards Scandinavia. In the early 9th century the land now called Norway was not united. Instead there existed a number of kingdoms such as Vestfold, Rogaland…

In my latest post I look at some of the Norwegian characters who are beginning to play a growing and important role in this Tapestry

This is the Pictish stone which stands against the graveyard wall in the village of Strathmiglo, Fife. It is very weathered, but you can just about make out the head of a deer and, above it, a rectangular shape, possibly a “tuning fork” symbol.

Onuist II and the Flag of Scotland While this blog tries as best as it can, using historical references and other evidence to make sense of what was happening in the period that it covers, from time to time we will come across stori…

My latest blog looks at the Pictish King Onuist II and what little we know of him, other than how, in alliance with a supposed “King of Scotland,” he defeated the Anglo-Saxon “king” Athelstan – a victory which apparently led to the birth of the Scottish flag
