This is the 4th time since March 1st where the Wings have held the lead in the final 10 minutes of the game and have gone on to lose. Absolutely unacceptable way to end the season
I'm kind of glad this is at home so the Wings get booed but I don't think it matters to this team at all.
So when are they announcing PWHL expansion?
The Red Wings are unbeaten in regulation all-time in games played on a Saturday in April against a team from a place that starts with "New."

The Red Wings are unbeaten in regulation all-time in their first game after a shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets that goes more than the initial three rounds.

Since 05-06, only one other team has ranked in the top-2 of their conference as late into the season as DET did this year (Jan 25th, 2026) and failed to make the playoffs
2015-2016 Bruins ranked 2nd in the East with 12 games to go and finished 4-8-1 to miss the playoffs on a tiebreaker…to Detroit
Or whatever the hell Copp was griping about.
Shhh... Wouldn't want to be an outside influence.
How in the hell did two Jackets take each other out 3-on-3 and Detroit fail to take advantage?
Perron got tied up but there was no chance of a call at that point in the game.
The Red Wings have never missed the playoffs in a season where they beat the Blue Jackets in a home game in April that wasn't the last game of the season. Detroit has never made the playoffs when losing to Columbus under those same circumstances.

Man, the Monday after the weekend that the Wings just had is a hell of a time to get a call from one of their ticket reps. Give them the day off, Chris.
This freaking team...

But then they go get him back at the deadline this year and they still play like garbage so maybe he wasn't the glue holding everything together after all.
One of the things about this stupid team that lives rent-free in my brain is how last year, so much was made about how they clearly missed David Perron and that was part of why they had such a horrible start. Really, David Perron was the missing piece? Okay then...
Congrats on your final career goal, David Perron.
I feel like the difference isn't just the timeline.
The Leafs tanked hard, got their new core, handed them the keys and said "Go do it" and they failed.
The Wings wandered in the wilderness, built something of a core, eventually handed them the keys and said "Go do it" and they replied "Do what?"
I kind of wonder if the slow rebuild has taught everyone in the organization that there's never any urgency so why try?
And, like, if this was a young team that hadn't figured out how to win yet, some of this would be acceptable. But how many years have we been told that overpaying for vets was necessary to show the team how to win and then they seemingly _don't show the team how to win_?
Either they're not embarassed or embarassment is not a motivator.
This post has been rattling around in my head for 20 minutes and I think the problem is that this team never acts like they're embarrassed.
McLellan will come out angry after a loss but the players are always like, "Welp, I guess we've got to be better" and then _not do it_.
Fans shouldn't wait until the end of the game tomorrow, this team should get booed coming onto the ice.
Every time the Red Wings have earned a 4-2 win on April 2 (4/2), they've followed it up with a win over the New York Rangers on April 4.

but you can barrel towards the crease right at the goalie and it's not stopping him from doing his job as long as you don't actually enter the crease and make contact until the puck is already in the net. Weird line to draw.
Couch conversation about how Tomas Holmstrom wasn't allowed to stand at the edge of the crease because it obstructed the goalie from doing his job and Sean Avery wasn't allowed to wave his arms around like an idiot because it obstructed the goalie from doing his job...
