tempted to make a sign on my door that says "no admission except on [redacted] business" bc if it's not one of the three major projects i'm working on, i don't want to hear about it until july

hey fellow USians in the humanities - so if they pass that law that access to financial aid/loans is determined by graduate income data being over a certain minimum, you know that means we all have to lie about how much we make in alumni polls, right? right???
it's not just about this, it's about that.
one thing. another thing. a third thing. this is what sets this apart.
i hope you find something that speaks to you! they all felt like things that made me think about the world differently
i will caution you that it can be dry, so if it doesn't work for you, try one of her short stories. the prose and cultural worldbuilding are much more the point of focus than we're used to in SFF, so it's a slow book.
for nonfiction, the fire next time: files.blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/wp-content/b...
the documentary "the celluloid closet" (which will give you a longer list of films to watch!)
and persepolis and fun home, for graphic memoir/autobiography.
if you are a book lover, inkheart.
based on our mutual love of tolkien, i would rec the green knight film.
two general recs are terry pratchett and ursula k leguin (the left hand of darkness if you're up for a denser read, but her short stories are also poignant).
ugh not again, no matter how many times i change my visibility it does this. :/ i'm sorry. if you're looking for specific genre recs i can throw a couple at you.
what a flimsy excuse to rerelease the movie for $$$
announcing ILΓVATAR, my multi-billion dollar company which will specialize in the dismantling of all other idiotically tolkien-named entities, that they shalt see that no theme may be played that hath not its uttermost source in me, nor can any alter the music in my despite
other all time favorites include 'i lik the bread'
when i first read 'this is just to say' in my undergrad theory class, i absolutely hated it, but the memes i've seen pop up in subsequent years have given it a new life. i find the legacy of the meme format far more meaningful than the poem. sorry to the imagists but long live the shitpost poets

i regret to inform everyone that i did not prepare a secret anniversary fest-themed sequel LOTRO fic, even though i thought about it.
reading posts from the tolkien fandom as an outsider and it's stuff like "when fΓ«obonglebΓ¬n skenches nóûëqûè's hΓΊedhhΓΌin amirite" and i'm just nodding along like yes. yΓ¨s. you are absolutely correct, that shΓt slΓ€ppΓ«d
PARTY TIME
i try to update these boards with things i find foundational for me but they're still missing a lot. pin.it/DElQTVsNf
this is so hard! i think it depends on the person and what you want to watch and read. i can recommend pacific rim as the lifechanging film of the 2010s but i feel like 99% of people aren't going to see that.
you don't have to lie to make me feel better π
side gig update: offered to teach a class in-person, no communication, looked it up in the catalog, but no one has registered lololol. rip to me. discussion board posts and AI it is
where were you doing in 2008 when ppl stopped having babies? defending the status quo? smh
if i was running for office on a platform of closing universities, i would at least google what "enrollment cliff" meant ffs
write something terrible, is my advice. like genuinely, just write something god awful. commit to it. you can then spend time making the terrible thing better having already done the hard part of actually writing anything at all.
YES the marxist in me is absolutely foaming at the mouth
