Me, staring at my collection of domains, wondering how my little personal data collection and single table on my blog somehow became PayGap.ie 😂

There's plenty of evidence for what I'm saying, but organisations make these sweeping policy changes with vague hand-wavey talk of "morale" and "collaboration", as if we all didn't achieve all these things and more, from home, during 2020 lockdowns.

This is a regressive policy that will force women out of the workplace, and then BOI (with a median pay gap of over 20% by the way) will throw up their hands and say "we just can't get the women, that's why there's still such a gap in the financial sector".

They will not feel the societal pressure to leave early to pick the kids up from school, to stay home so a kid can get to the dentist, or to bring a parent to a hospital appointment. They don't need the kind of flexible work that we know encourages and enables women to stay in the workforce.

Bank of Ireland says bonuses on the line for staff who miss work-from-office days Staff at Bank of Ireland have been warned that failing to meet the minimum requirement of working eight days a month in the office could mean lower bonuses.

When I talk about the motherhood penalty being a choice, that it is caused by policies made by those who are not impacted by them, this is what I mean. The key players here are all men.

I've been asked a lot, especially recently, if I'd consider trying to get elected. I'd be lying if I said that this kind of abuse isn't a consideration for me, despite the thick skin and experience I have of "being a woman on the internet" and all the general abuse that has come with that.

Looking forward to tomorrow's papers, when exactly none of Ireland's columnists, who are usually so keen to tone-police every single aspect of civil discourse, will stand up for Eileen.
When people tell you who they are. believe them.

Ok look, I'm not saying we're too far through the looking glass here, but crimson cherry apple cherry taste Fanta seems like an abomination unto god so maybe we should check ourselves?

If, hypothetically, someone in your area illegally fenced off public land and if, hypothetically, this was the second time the selfish **** tried this, how, hypothetically, would you express your displeasure in the most disruptive ways possible. Hypothetically.

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez: “Here in Spain, we are approving and advancing a process to regularise half a million immigrants.

“And I want to say to the Right and the Far Right who oppose this: Spain is the daughter of migration and will not become the mother of xenophobia.”

I've added in some context notes on the company page, which will hopefully serve as quick reminders right there when people are encountering the data

You're all good, my delayed reply there isn't offence, just me being busy, so don't worry at all!

I'm glad that page is helpful, but I'll see if I can link it more directly or snippet bits out so people can see it in context, in the exact moment they have the question, which I think will help!

This is great feedback. I do have a page on the site, but maybe some sort of hover panel available right there in the reports with brief explanations would be helpful?

That's a cool idea and would honestly be pretty simple to implement. Watch this space ...

Oh nice! This dovetails with a piece of research I'm doing now about those narrative texts. Currently extracting them with a view to doing sentiment analysis and seeing if what they say matches change. It'll be a minute because there's a lot of data work to do, but that will be coming.

PayGap.ie - Irish Gender Pay Gap Portal A portal cataloguing gender pay gap reports from Irish companies.

Ok, so I have absolutely tons of blog post ideas for PayGap.ie from explainers of the data, to deep dives on specific industries, to general commentary on the #genderPayGap.

But I'd love to know - what do you want to see? What do you want me to investigate? What's missing from the site?

“Basic income has been shown to reduce health care costs, including an 8.5% reduction in hospitalizations. As Dr. Danielle Martin [the newly elected Liberal MP in today’s by-election] has so pointedly said, “If we discovered a drug that reduced hospitalizations by 8.5%, we’d put it in the water.”

John McGuirk mocked me once and now he's out of a job. Is this a lesson for people who argue with me about the #genderPayGap? I can't be sure but that's what people are saying...

Mind the Gap Ireland is the second richest country in Europe, and this week a single protest shut it down. Here's why.

The thing that makes me angry about these protests is that for Repeal, we had to go out and knock on doors and be polite to people who thought we were the devil for months and these guys can just dump a tractor in the street and get what they want in five days.

Oh and hey, you know how they've been doing all the media rounds? Constant videos and updates. Have you seen them condemn the actions against the Muslim Sisters of Éire? No. Of course you haven't. Because that is who they are.

1 week ago 67 21 1 0

And make no mistake, when they report about how their action is going, they are counting you as one of them. There isn't a distinction being made by the leaders of this protest. They think you're there for *everything* they believe in. All of it.

You can't protest alongside racists and far-right activists without getting that stink on you. They're not really on the side of the people, they're on the side of the people they deem worthy, and that's a very small group.

1 week ago 105 31 3 1

I really do believe this is true. I'm sure that not everybody who turned up to protest has fascist leanings, but if you pulled your truck up next to one that said "Ireland for the Irish" and you don't leave, are you better than the owner of that truck?
