I feel like Sun Tzu really missed out on "Invent Pete Hegseth and give him to the enemy"

John Muir’s Birthplace Museum. The image shows an oblique view of one side of a street in Dunbar. A stone building on the right and a blue-painted building on the left sandwich a three-storey and three bay wide white building with a red pantile roof. It is flying the Saltire and the US flag. The scene is in sunshine.
188 years ago today. John Muir, who convinced US President Theodore Roosevelt that Yosemite should be protected as a national park, was born in Dunbar in East Lothian on 21 April 1838. Today his birthplace is a museum about him. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...

Didn’t realise how expensive DMs had become until one of my colleagues asked me if mine were “real”
Had to go to an actual chapel for a family thing and ended up watching my youngest grandson playing foosball with a nun
Given that they were handing out Haribo after mass, he now thinks nuns are the coolest people ever
They were lovely tbf
A jar of Marmite crunchy peanut butter. Salty, peanutty goodness
Marmite Peanut Butter is back in Lidl
This has been a public service skeet
There is something in my eye.
Sound on.
Woke up at the back of 4 and couldn’t get back to sleep
Beautiful sky out to the East and the dawn chorus is in full swing
I might do this more often
But no, Hungarians have now made it more than clear that there is hope.
The problems will be resolved, the key is to hold on to one of the greatest achievements in history -- the Western democratic civilization -- and not foolishly surrender it to the jackals falsely promising mountains of gold.
Orbán got Vanced. Today is a good day
We’re doing a rewatch (it’s on right now) and it pulls no punches
Still thinking about the episode “Time of Death”, starring Ray Liotta. Incredible television.
ER is just one long emotional rollercoaster
On a metal shelf sits a small, tan creature— five slender appendages end in rocky tips connecting to a chunky, stone, cone-like core. The creature places one of its arms against a glass tube with a line of neon glowing light. The creature stands on a metal shelf, surrounded by artificial plants and a polygonal paperweight.
can’t get project hail mary off my brain, so i turned a ~$15 official LEGO set into a rocky space friend of my very own. fully jazz hands capable. build your own with instructions here:

Someone ran out of money before they could finish the renovation. Or just plain gave up
What I like best about the Artemis II photos is that it was taken by actual humans. An actual person had to frame it and manually adjust settings. It's their own artistic rendition of what they thought looked best at the time, something no probe, rover or unmanned spacecraft can take. it's art
All the recent polls show a pro Independence majority in Holyrood come the May elections
Scotland has the right to self determination, it’s that simple
Independence is normal
Recreate your own Artemis splashdown with three Tunnocks teacakes and a Nespresso pod
They attacked the Muslim Sisters of Éire, one of the kindest and mostly welcoming groups out on the streets of Dublin providing meals to the unhoused.
Fuck every single one of these rat fucks.
Victor Glover and Christina Koch in orange spacesuits sit in the doorway of the rescue helicopter
Commander Reid Wiseman and Jeremy Hansen sit in the doorway of the rescue chopper
Going to get some great images from NASA in the coming days. Here’s a couple of post-splashdown snaps of actual heroes.
I hate when fantasy films I made a long time ago begin to come true in real life.
It’s National Siblings Day. 10 years ago I had two brothers
Now I have four brothers and three sisters thanks to a chance remark and the wonder of DNA
Davina would be all over the story if she knew
Crescent (partially illuminated) Moon and Earth facing the Sun. The Sun is just out of frame to the right leaving flares of light reaching out toward the left. NASA/Artemis II/Kevin M. Gill
This might be one of my favorites from Artemis II. A cinematic alignment of the Moon and Earth, each cradled within the warmth of sunbeams.
Taken from behind the Moon on April 6th.

The amazing thing about writing is it's basically time travel and whenever I think about that it blows my mind. It's a genuine miracle.
I mean, just think about it: a Chinese general from 2,500 years ago can point out the President of the USA is a fucking idiot.
It's incredible.
[alt text by NASA] The Moon, seen here backlit by the Sun during a solar eclipse on April 6, 2026, is photographed by one of the cameras on the Orion spacecraft’s solar array wings. Orion is visible in the foreground on the left. Earth is reflecting sunlight at the left edge of the Moon, which is slightly brighter than the rest of the disk. The bright spot visible just below the Moon’s bottom right edge is Saturn. Beyond that, the bright spot at the right edge of the image is Mars. Credit: NASA
Whoa 🤯
The Moon, in full eclipse, with the #Artemis II Orion spacecraft. Part of the Moon and spacecraft are lit by Earthshine, and both Saturn and Mars are visible to the lower right. Incredible. Details: images.nasa.gov/details/art0...

after a quick review of my timeline i feel the need to point to the sign
The Edge of Two Worlds art002e009285 (April 6, 2026) – Our planet draws closer to passing behind the Moon in this image captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby, about six minutes before Earthset. Earth is in a crescent phase, with sunlight coming from the right and appearing almost completely blue and white. The dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime. On Earth’s day side, swirling clouds are visible over muted blue in the Australia and Oceania region. A part of the dark grey Moon is visible relatively close-up in about 1/3 of the left half of the image. The image shows lines of small indentations on the Moon’s rugged surface that are secondary crater chains. These structures are formed by material ejected during a violent primary impact. I'm in this picture and I like it
I hate having to do the "look, they're normal just like us" post, but sometimes you have to do that when American propaganda tries to convince everyone Iranians are "animals".
Photo of the earth rising over the moon taken by the Artemis astronauts
Artemis photo of Earth from the far side of the moon.
Breathtaking.
What a precious and beautiful planet we live on
View of the spacecraft (bright, on the left), a dark thin crescent of Moon, and a very small, bright thin crescent of Earth next to it
