Today, Danielle Smith and the UCP caucus unveiled plans to rig the next election:
A new motion indicates the UCP's plans to manipulate the election maps for the next election in their favour, and without any requirement to consult the public.
This has never been done in Canadian history. /1
It costs the City of Ottawa $465/person each year to serve new low-density homes, over & above what it receives from property taxes/fees.
On the other hand, high-density infill such as apartment buildings pays for itself plus an extra $606/person each year.
Sprawl costs, infill saves. #UrbanTruth

Danielle Smith has a plan to destroy public health care in Alberta—and she’s not doing it alone.
Documents and lobbying records reveal the government is consulting directly with Canada’s private insurance giants on how to implement two-tier health care, reports @nikbarryshaw.bsky.social
So far this government has:
- removed EV mandates (and moreover paused rebates to stall the market)
- removed carbon tax
- removed low carbon electricity policy
- removed gasoline tax
- removed oil and gas cap
when does the Canadian Federal government do climate policy?
The Strait of Hormuz crisis is doing something a decade of subsidies and mandates struggled to achieve:
making millions of people want an EV who previously discounted them.

The number of orphan wells in Alberta will almost double this year. The money the province makes industry set aside to clean them up will rise by only 7 per cent.
That’s a problem. #abpoli

oh...here me out...why not make transit free until gas prices stabilize instead? #alberta
Giving “library inspectors” the right to look at your library card, your history, and what you’ve signed out is fascist behaviour.
That's what the UCP's Bill 28 is all about.
There is a long philosophical tradition of civil disobedience from many different sources including Thoreau, Ghandi & Peter Singer. Alberta UCP Bill 25 will make it unlawful to teach about social change through the disobedience of laws.

Alberta separatism isn’t motivated by equalization policies, Senate seats, carbon taxes or oil. These tired complaints may ride shotgun on independence, but bigotry drives the truck.

A national campaign is underway to shore up the Alberta government's 'finding' that – surprise – its closure of supervised consumption sites didn't kill anyone.

🧵 Breaking: Alberta government embarrasses itself again
Today, the Centre of Recovery Excellence (CoRE) published a study. Unfortunately, last month I published two stories showing how their data are junk.
Let's take a look. 1/
"The system's power comes not from its truth, but from everyone's willingness to perform as if it were true, and its fragility comes from the same source. When even one person stops performing, when the greengrocer removes his sign, the illusion begins to crack"
- Mark Carney
🧵 Correction! Will be on @cjsw.bsky.social at 8:15am MST to discuss my recent stories on how the Alberta govt & health authority are manufacturing justifications to close supervised consumption services in Alberta and Ontario. 1/

Reminder: The Alberta govt's "Mature Asset Strategy" proposes using AI data centres as a way to burn more natural gas, which would cause natural gas prices to rise, as a way to keep companies profitable (at our expense). The rest of us would be stuck paying higher natural gas prices. #ABLeg #ABPoli
