The Clare branch were thrilled to lend a hand for today's Day of Action for Míde Nic Fhionnlaoich, our amazing candidate in the Galway West by-election. The reception on the doors was wonderful and the enthusiasm among the volunteers was electrifying. Let's get Míde elected! #spéirgorm

Threatening to withhold investment in response to behaviour borne of social deprivation is draconian. It achieves nothing but pitting community members against each other. We address social problems in neglected areas by investing in them, not by punishing them for their own deprivation. #Spéírgorm

Conflating social housing with criminality is divisive and inexcusable. Kilrush is one of the most deprived areas in the country, scoring - 15.85 on the Pobal HP Deprivation index, with some areas of the town scoring as low as -36.52 (Extremely disadvantaged). #Spéirgorm

We are appalled at the suggestion by Cllr Ian Lynch that he is " ...at the point of putting down a motion to stop delivery of social housing until we can manage our existing stock...". The comments were made in response to recent criminal incidents in the town.

Israel is still committing war crimes with impunity – this govt still hasn't taken real action.

Have they pushed for the suspension of the EU-Israel trade agreement? What is stalling the Occupied Territories Bill?

We've asked the Tánaiste directly, but he once again offers platitudes and no action

It's now five months since the Energy Minister requested the CRU to carry out an investigation into price gouging by energy companies.

Yet in the Dáil today, it emerged that the Govt has not received a response or update from the regulator on the status of the report.

CRU is asleep at the wheel.

Government ramming through legislation to help corporations sue the country - Social Democrats The Government’s attempt to ram through the Arbitration Bill without adequate scrutiny poses a serious threat to Ireland, according to Social Democrats Foreign Affairs spokesperson Patricia Stephenson...

The Arbitration Bill, which govt is guillotining after 1hr of debate tonight, is a threat to Ireland.

The Bill only exists because the previous attempt to ratify CETA was unconstitutional.

Yet Govt are denying proper legislative scrutiny of the new version.

Whitmore questions Environment Minister on inexcusable delay to 2026 Climate Action Plan - Social Democrats The Government’s inability to provide a clear timeline for the delivery of the 2026 Climate Action Plan is putting Ireland on a road to financial and environmental ruin, according to Social Democrats ...

Govt’s inability to provide a clear timeline for the delivery of the 2026 Climate Action Plan is putting Ireland on a road to financial and environmental ruin.

Minister's vague commitment to bring a draft plan to Govt 'later this year' is inexcusable.

Where is the urgency?

People are scared of the next bill landing through their door.

The cost of living crisis is hitting families hard and they need real support now.

We’re proposing a €400 energy credit, support for essential workers and investment in solar to cut bills long term.

Communications Minister has no authority to order Coimisiún na Meán to carry out a review of media coverage of the fuel protests.

His Trumpian comments were sinister and disturbing.

Minister cannot be allowed to use an independent regulator to air his petty grievances.

Today, govt ministers stood up and listed their so-called achievements – but no sign of accountability for their handling of last week's fuel protests.

It's clear they still don't get it.

People all over Ireland are struggling to keep their heads above water.

Govt needs to pay attention to them.

The protests we saw last week were a symptom of a larger problem – that this govt has failed to listen to the people they are elected to serve.

For that reason, the Social Democrats have no confidence in this Government.

The Government’s first move back in the Dáil? A motion of confidence in themselves.

Meanwhile, people are struggling through an energy crisis.

We’re bringing forward real solutions: a €400 targeted payment, support for essential workers and measures to cut energy bills.

Galway graciously gave us an amazing president - It's the least we can do to help ensure her successor serves Galway as well as she did. Míde is a Gaeilgoir, a passionate advocate for peace, and a champion of those left behind by successive governments. We can't imagine a better successor #Spéirgorm
