Why can pupils sometimes look at a question, which we know they can answer, and just seem to freeze?
Join me next week as I explore this question and restart the maths work with @greenshawrs.bsky.social l!
To get you warmed-up, here's a blog I wrote: researchschool.org.uk/news/why-som...
What a stunning setting for #rEdEdinburgh today!
It was a privilege to be a part of an amazing line up of speakers! For anyone who'd like to see the slides you can find them on my blog lnkd.in/eZSf6iQP
Worth remembering when using teacher assessment to monitor standards within and between schools, that a human opinion is not a standard unit of measurement.
Less than a week to go!
Huge thanks to @mrsball.bsky.social, @singhamarbeerg.bsky.social, & Adam Kohlbeck, who kindly read the book prior to publication.
Did we mention the LEGEND that is @funkypedagogy.bsky.social was generous enough to write our foreword!?

A massive well done to @mrenglishmaths.bsky.social and @nimtassoc.bsky.social for putting together an absolutely phenomenal inaugural conference - big things to come for maths in Northern Ireland!!

It finally happened! After 3 years on the circuit I met another sardar invited to speak at a conference, and it was none other than @theteacherwins.bsky.social !

"Assessment is at the heart of effective teaching and learning, yet it remains one of the most complex and often misunderstood areas within education." @marymyatt.bsky.social in conversation with @singhamarbeerg.bsky.social for @myattandco.bsky.social: marymyatt.substack.com/p/assessment...
Thank you as always to all of the people I've learnt from, the BMet team for inviting me, and Katie Cavill for sorting the booking! ππ½
What a fantastic message to come home to after a great day's training in Birmingham!
It's always a genuine pleasure to work with colleagues and provide a supportive space where they can challenge their own and each other's thinking and practice.
Tickets are available for the conference.
Registration for our conference is open - sign up now and spread the word.
@singhamarbeerg.bsky.social will be leading our keynote and some local educators will be leading workshops throughout the morning.
Tickets available at: nimtaconference2025.eventbrite.com
A day's worth of training for Β£10 or less??
Excited doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling about this!
Finishing off with a deep introspection of coaching with McKenzie from @graydin.bsky.social
#ReDBmouth
Next up, @mattteachcoach.bsky.social on coaching and the classroom environment, with a quote from fan-favourite Mary Kennedy.
#ReDBmouth
First up at #ReDBmouth was a very thought provoking look at assessment from @s-donarski.bsky.social - big takeaway being that "assessment" can't be separated from curriculum design and delivery.

Thank you Deb - your blogs were actually a big starting point for our work!
I hadn't considered this previously but I think you've hit the nail on the head - such a critical part of being mathematically literate (and also something that I think many expert mathematicians take for granted, further proving your point!)
This was a great read!
And so glad to see that the work of our team @greenshawrs.bsky.social influenced Jon's thinking - we've got a publication around this coming soon so if you're interested in disciplinary literacy, watch this space!
Something special is brewing for Sikh teachers in the UK...watch this space!

Inspired by the call to action around building schools where our pupils belong at #REND25, I've branched out from the normal T&L blog posts to write about something a bit more personal.

The poem "Singh song!" is part of the GCSE English lit syllabus, and in this blog I offer some reasons as to why I think it should be replaced, or at the very least thoroughly critiqued.
I'm particularly keen to get thoughts from English lit teachers, so please get in touch and share!
