🚨It seems that PFC is not only the CEO of the brain but is also contributing to vision even in the absence of a task! 🧵 1/4

🚨 New preprint from our lab 🚨
We show that portable, contact-free MMG with OPMs can decode fine finger movements and recover EMG-like muscle activation patterns 🧲🖐️
Huge credit to the team for pushing MMG closer to real-world applications

🚨 🆕 Preprint 🚨
How does the brain represent natural images?
Using MEG + multivariate analysis, we disentangle contributions of retinotopy, spatial frequency, shape, and texture
Together, our results reveal how visual features jointly and dynamically support human object recognition.

🚨 Check out our new preprint 🚨
A novel artifact-robust framework to investigate online effects of transcranial current stimulation (tCS).
Further, we test this approach in an MEG study 🧲🧠 and find neural interaction between tCS and flickering visual stimulation.

Check out our new preprint on convolutional recurrent neural networks trained for image classification and evaluated on out-of-distribution robustness
Spoiler alert: simply adding top-down feedback connections was not enough to achieve robust vision!
Link 👉 arxiv.org/abs/2508.07115
🧵👇
Are top-down feedback connections enough for robust vision?
We found ConvRNN with top-down feedback exhibiting OOD robustness only when trained with dropout, revealing a dual mechanism for robust sensory coding
with @marco-d.bsky.social, Karl Friston, Giovanni Pezzulo & @siegellab.bsky.social
🧵👇
Check out our posters at the #CCN2025!
🔹 Ema Zezelic
Exploring the Neural Basis of Stimulus-Driven Overconfidence
🔹 Tobias Ludwig
Multi-task Learning in the Human Brain
🔹 Paul Hege
The Causal Structure of Band-limited Dynamics in the Human Cortex
Sad to miss #CCN2025. It will be the 1st conference where a PhD working w/ me will speak 😭
go see Lubna's talk (Friday) about distributed neural correlates of flexible decision making in 🐒,
work done in collaboration w/ @scottbrincat.bsky.social @siegellab.bsky.social & @earlkmiller.bsky.social
Check out our new preprint on spatial hearing👂 in humans and deep neural networks
We found that humans exhibit more robust sound localization than models when probed with out-of-distribution sounds, like those lacking primary interaural cues!

Full thread 🧵👇
Check out our new preprint on the encoding mechanisms of temporal prediction errors during tactile-motor associations in the human 🧠
We found preferential encoding for action-oriented errors, encoded in motor space!

Thread here 👇
🧠⏱️ New preprint!
We found that temporal prediction errors are more strongly encoded when an overt response is required, and this encoding occurs in motor rather than sensory space.
