APPG member @jeevunsandher.bsky.social highlighted that the UK’s dependence on fossil fuels has led to an affordability crisis and asked how our transition away from fossil fuels will tackle the cost of household energy head on.
As climate costs escalate, at home and abroad, the cost of the transition is falling, as technologies innovate and improve.
APPG member @pollybillington.bsky.social argued that investment in renewables will reduce the cost of energy and provide vital energy security in an uncertain world.

In the current geopolitical context, it is crucial that the UK achieves true energy independence by reducing its need for fossil fuels.

The Climate APPG was delighted to host @michaelshanksmp.co.uk, Minister for Energy, for a discussion on the UK Government’s North Sea Future Plan yesterday.
APPG member Olivia Blake MP urged the government to continue leadership shown at the COP30 negotiations when championing a road map for fossil fuel phase out by ruling out extraction at Rosebank.
APPG member Abtisam Mohamed MP welcomed the UK’s support for the Belém Action Mechanism at COP30, but called for faster progress in moving away from oil and gas and the need to reject the application to extract from Rosebank.
APPG member @elliechowns.bsky.social pushed the government to commit finance to the Tropical Forest Forever Facility fund and to global just transition efforts, while pressing the Secretary of State on the UK’s defining climate test: the Rosebank oil field.
APPG member @barrygardiner.bsky.social expressed concerns about how fossil fuels are discussed at COP negotiations and asked the Secretary of State about the role played by the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance, and what the UK is doing to work with other countries.
@stellacreasy.bsky.social stressed that approving new oil and gas projects such as Rosebank and Jackdaw would undermine the UK’s climate leadership and directly counter efforts to keep global warming below 1.5°C.
