Doing the unthinkable: The deep cuts to the #CDC's workforce today are expected to decimate the Epidemic Intelligence Service, a program that has trained public health rapid responders for decades.
Envy of the world. Poof!

Enjoyed NT Live production of Macbeth on a cozy sofa in our local cinema. But a hard watch thinking about who will stand up to tyranny.
Censor CDC scientists and ask them to withdraw papers from medical journals?
This is not how it works, Mr President.

Welcome news for
England covering all regions. Meanwhile we continue with sporadic opportunistic access in Scotland. #mpox www.england.nhs.uk/2025/02/nhs-...
A challenge to us including reviewers and SciCo organisers, dealing with the reality that some US colleagues are now being politically censored.

“The hospital president announces that lunch and dinner are free..” UK/US culture gap in one. A lovely read.
One of the joys of the #BHIVA autumn meeting: catching up with colleagues I trained with back in the 90s and those who have come through Sandyford in the decades since.
A serious start at the #BHIVA autumn conference: pushing back on disparity between HIV and hepatitis B controls for HCW occupational clearance, challenges for prisoners living with HIV, and adverse impact of attempted prosecutions for reckless transmission. We still have to tackle #HIV stigma .
Heading to London for the @bhiva.bsky.social Autumn meeting tomorrow then seeing family. Looking forward to catching up with folk.
We were lucky to have Prof. Sarah Harper from www.ageing.ox.ac.uk/about setting the scene at the Scottish Intersystems meeting today, ranging from 1918 flu impact on life expectancy to senomodulators and the impact of diet on healthy aging. Certainly made the scale challenge clear.
Thanks to the medpagetoday write up discovered the Bluesky directory Starter Packs blueskydirectory.com/starter-packs site..
Just had my practice connectivity session for my talk tomorrow on digital sexual health: thinking of colleagues in Ukraine with all the horror they are facing still finding time to organise a great 2-day #STI symposium. #IUSTI docs.google.com/document/d/1...
@iusti-europe.bsky.social is now live. Like the rest of us sky newbies feeling our way around.
Beginning to feel like old Medtwitter. So far no starter packs for STIs or HIV that I can see so starting a trawl for folk. We'll get IUSTI Europe account sorted.
Scholarships for students / trainees to support the next generation of STI scientists #IUSTI meeting in Montreal next summer.
More knee meniscus crumbling so cycling only at the moment, but what a great day. Started out with a planning call for #IUSTI 2026 meeting in Prague.
So taken the plunge hoping to find the good old days of ID medtwitter and nice stuff to keep us all going in the difficult days to come..
