The vibes were off all day to the extent that I began to feel cursed until I caught a glimpse of a flying squirrel out of the corner of my eye and as I did, its little magic carpet body came swooping toward me and passed directly over my head and it felt like a kind of blessing.
I went out looking for flying squirrels, but all I got was rabbits.
Many thanks and much appreciation to @robertloerzel.bsky.social for his thoughtful words & including my work in his insightful essay “The New Midwestern Photography Movement” in the latest issue of the Middle West Review!
There was goose news at Wrigley last year too
The other day, I saw a similarly meandering goose outside the Wilson Red Line station.
Birds in the news!
Newly released records on the police response to the assassination of Melissa Hortman show officers knew a woman was lying motionless on the top of the stairs inside the Hortman home but waited 30 minutes to physically check on her.

Karoline Leavitt @PressSec Fact Sheet: President Donald J. Trump is Accelerating Medical Treatments for Serious Mental Illness
we've noticed and i'm glad he's getting help
CNN put together a montage of Trump saying as far back as March 9 that his war against Iran "is going to be finished pretty quickly," then him saying that same thing over and over for the past six weeks
"particularly" is a funny way to spell "exclusively"
why do things like this never happen to me

By the time I saw "Psycho" (as a teen, I think), I'd already seen the three biggest surprise moments in clips on TV. So I've always wondered what it would be like to see it and actually be surprised!
Mark your calendars! I’ll be part of Lectures on Tap on May 20—where professors, experts, and storytellers bringing thought-provoking talks to Chicago bars. Tickets go on sale Sunday, April 26 via Eventbrite. I’ll be diving into "The Blues Brothers" (1980) and its Chicago roots. 😎
A hand colored title page of an incunable with an image of a man wearing a hat. This is one of the first images of the later Dracula.
This is one of the first images - published in 1488 - of the later called #Dracula. A short 🧵 of the media history of the legend.
title page of "Von dem Dracole Wayda dem grossen Tyrannen" (Augsburg 1560).
And this is how Dracula looked like in 1560. Well, the Augsburg-based publisher of "Von dem Dracole Wayda dem grossen Tyrannen" (Augsburg 1560) clearly set a different note - or was lacking the older images. However, the media echo was running.
Maybe Optimo (if they're interested in hats). Exile in Bookville, and other stuff in the Fine Arts Buliding.
"But sometimes the robots get themselves into pickles as they deliver tuna sandwiches and other fare to the city’s human denizens."
@taliasoglin.bsky.social bringing the puns!!
(I needed a laugh because I *hate* these delivery robots)

"Earlier this year, a Serve robot named Veruca was cruising down the sidewalk near the CTA’s Chicago Blue Line stop when it approached the station’s entrance and tumbled down the subway stairs." We bet Veruca was salty about that!
1/3 A lot of this has to do with a corresponding movement to limit child labor & make school compulsory for kids. If you're gonna do that, you've got to have a decent place in which to educate those kids, & the architecture itself should speak to the importance of what's happening in the building.
Contrary to what Kash Patel thinks, “we told you this was false and you printed it anyway” is not proof of actual malice when an outlet has reason to believe the story is true.
The entitlement of these guys is off the charts. His denial isn’t worth any more than someone else’s claim.
I do drive occasionally!
A garage door is painted with the Chicago city flag (blue and white stripes, with four six-pointed red stars) and cartoon characters saying "Hello" in various languages. Next to the garage, the gate of a driveway has three signs on it. One says "Hands Off Chicago." Another says: "ICE OUT! Fuera ICE!" And the third has a red "X" over a yellow crown.
