OAH was quite therapeutic (thanks to everyone who let me vent 😆), and the highlight was celebrating @dygottlieb.bsky.social ‘s forthcoming book YUPPIES!

About to head to Philly for the @oah.org conference!
If you'll be there, check out my book at the @harvardpress.bsky.social booth.
And if you see me, come say hello, and I'll share the details for my Friday night book launch party (co-hosted with the inimitable @jessicaannlevy.bsky.social).
🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️
Thanks! Looking forward to catching up at OAH or one of the NYC book events.
Thanks--appreciate it
Thanks! Looking forward to hearing what you think.
Biggest thanks to @kevinmkruse.bsky.social, @harvardpress.bsky.social, and (of course) @stabert.bsky.social
They're here, and they're spectacular.
Thanks to all for your help over the decade-plus it's taken to get here.
How did law firms and other professional workplaces become places of such crushing and soulless work? An Essay by @dygottlieb.bsky.social
“From Seattle to NYC, young professionals whisper that their firms have become ‘sweatshops’: factories where profits are squeezed out of their white-collar labour force. The exclusionary status quo of the previous mid-century has given way to something more diverse – yet much more exploitative.”
Academia is absolutely subject to the same forces.
Credentials won't save us from proletarianization--and our love for the work only makes us more exploitable, as @sarahljaffe.bsky.social has shown so powerfully.
Why did elite professionals start calling their firms "sweatshops"? And who reaped the rewards of all that work?
Read this excerpt from my new book, Yuppies, to find out.

I have finally secured physical copies for all four of the first books my former students put out this year so you people are going to hear about them again.
you love to see it!
My former student @dygottlieb.bsky.social has his amazing first book coming out in May. It's all about the way NYC helped create the "yuppies" and how those yuppies then remade NYC.
It's brilliant. You'll never think about Zagat's or the NYC Marathon the same way, trust me.

Aww thanks! All credit goes to whoever my advisor was.
This one's 🔥🔥🔥 (and more than a little terrifying).
Copies of Devin O’Shea’s and Dylan Gottlieb’s new books, on a desk
Excellent mail day! @devintoshea.bsky.social @dygottlieb.bsky.social 👀👀👀
Is that the hardcover?? Somehow you're seeing it before me lol
This month, we've got a VERY special episode: co-host @jessicaannlevy.bsky.social comes on to talk about her remarkable new @pennpress.bsky.social book, Black Power Inc., with @dygottlieb.bsky.social.
Double the hosts, double the fun!

Here's hoping she and the rest of the Lehman Brothers squad will be there, too.
