Anyone else still haunted by the dialogue around “best” or “best regards” being rude? I’m still using it for most business emails because it feels like the least worst, practical option, but occasionally I worry everyone I know is quietly offended 🫠

You know what doesn't get its support unceremoniously pulled by a tech company? Fuckin' books, brother
Tragically, visible abs did not result
This is giving the same energy as the infomercial that convinced me to buy an ab wheel as a highschooler
There is nothing like a good, thorough-but-not-over-the-top copyedit to make you feel that the world is still a place of calm, sensible people doing good work
Any time a bad thing happens today it’s like “that sucks, but at least we’re not in a nuclear war.” 🙃
A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois
Brutal.
Ever wonder if a career in publishing might be for you? 😂
My parents met protesting the Vietnam war, & prior my dad’s death from early onset Lewy body dementia, he attended peace protests every Saturday for over a decade in objection to conflicts in Afghanistan & Iraq. I hate war so fucking much—And I wish there were more people like my dad in the world.
It’s one of my all time favorite titles too!
Wait it's series?!?! Too good to be true!
Somehow this ice dancing movie is EXACTLY what I needed right now. Don't even care if it's a ripoff of The Cutting Edge.
Does anyone know if there's simple desktop app to keep a running tally of something? My hope is to press a button that makes a pleasant noise and gives me dopamine rush each time I respond to a submission, keeping track of how many I've reviewed over the year.
Chilling.
I totally agree, AI copy is a no-go for me.
Yeah, I think in that scenario it might be best to focus on specific improvements to the copy vs. the reasoning behind any issues.
That's a good approach! Just to extend the hypothetical slightly, what would you do if it wasn't something that takes a credit? Like, say, an editor wrote cover copy for your book and it had an artificial feel to it. Would you say anything?
Question for the hive-mind: What is the etiquette around asking whether something is AI-generated in a professional setting? Is there a way to frame the question that minimizes offense to the person being asked?
I believe he hails from the Skibidi region of Ohio, which, thanks to the Great Meme Reset of 2026, no longer exists.
Obsessed with the shirt tail becoming a cat tail
Are we ready to talk about the 25th amendment yet? Asking for a country.
Thank you for this ray of sunshine 🥹
Reposting as a reminder to myself as much as anyone else.
I wonder if it partly boils down to trends among classmates too. For my kiddo, there was a social aspect around the Warrior cats that made it more desirable to read and compare notes.
Zohran just went out and fixed the Williamsburg Bridge bike entrance. Just did it. No faffing, no nonsense. Bam. Fixed.
Lately, the thing we talk about is slowing down and absorbing the words regardless of format. He recently finished a graphic adaptation of Watership Down in like an hour and I was like, hang on...
My stepson seems to alternate pretty freely these days. There was a slight reluctance to read text only at first, but once he got comfortable with it, I was surprised how quickly he took off devouring more.
Happy New Year, kidlit community! I spent the last few weeks reading no news and The Golden Compass out loud with my family and this is the world I want to stay in forever.
