So the Trump administration’s two goals in peace talks with Iran are:

1. A commitment by Iran not to develop a nuke (This was part of the Obama deal that Trump canceled)

2. Opening the Strait of Hormuz. (Was open before war.)

The primary cause of the national debt is that the very wealthy don’t pay taxes. Migrants pay their share. The oligarchs Miller fronts for do not.

This whole line of thinking is just insane to me. If you don’t want to participate in educating and mentoring the next generation of scientists and thinkers you are welcome to choose a different profession.

Why I may ‘hire’ AI instead of a graduate student “It can competently perform a lot of the work I need immediately,” this professor writes

“In our culture, preferring an algorithm to a trainee feels like a betrayal of the academic mission.”

That’s because it is.

Good question - prob both! We couldnt look at this explicitly, but a cool relevant finding: there seems to be a region-specific relationship between stopover density ~ urbanization. That is, in the eastern U.S., more urban = lower stopover. But in the western U.S., more urban = higher stopover 🤯

Migratory bird stopover patterns linked to urbanization and social landscapes - Nature Cities Urban ecology traditionally focuses on single cities, yet cities play key roles in ecological processes such as migration. Radar analysis across the continental USA reveals that nearly half of stopove...

A study I led came out in Nature Cities yesterday!

We used radar to study the role that urban landscapes play in migratory bird stopover. Spoiler: birds use cities a lot, and the patterns of their use reflect social processes and the inequities embedded in them.

Trump slump? Attendance plummets at some science meetings, but others hold steady Amid travel bans, a government shutdown, and funding crunches, 2025 was a turbulent year for U.S. scientific societies

"One bad year could kill one of our favorite scientific societies."

In my latest story for @science.org, I explored how U.S. conferences fared over the last year amid concerns about an attendance slump.

After being held in two of them as a boy, I fought for decades urging America to never again build concentration camps and put human beings in them. It breaks my heart to watch this happen twice now in my own lifetime.

Brighton Park Road Upgrades Draw Outrage From Community, Citing Traffic Spikes And Business Woes The project is bringing bike lanes and other pedestrian and cyclist safety upgrades to dangerous stretches of South Archer and Kedzie Avenues in Brighton Park.

“Claudia Zuno, who is staunchly opposed to the street upgrades, said the project felt “unnecessary” and that cyclists should avoid the area due to its heavy truck presence.”

This really captures the opposition to pedestrian upgrades & bike lanes. Drivers feel bikers do not belong on Archer Ave.
