At this protest I also donated to the local food bank, added my signature to get a non-traditional political hopeful on the local ballot, wrote a postcard to my church asking them to divest of any investments benefitting the Palestinian genocide, and gave away free books. Even small actions matter.

Yes, rallies are performative. But this is Provo, Utah, and visibile dissent matters.

In Difficult Times, We Find Out What Kind of Christians We Are We’re living in a historic moral crisis; small actions can still make a difference.

Hundreds descend on ICE warehouse to protest SLC detention center; demonstration ends with vandalism Within an hour of the protest's start, the crowd had at least tripled in size. Although most of the demonstration was peaceful, tensions flared as it drew to a close.

Protesting the proposed ICE warehouse site in Salt Lake City.

I’m not just virtue signaling; I’m making it easier for whoever is monitoring US citizens’ social media accounts to identify my stance on this issue. Just so we’re clear.

P.S. My Viking and Anglo-Norman ancestors subjugated and enslaved the Irish. My colonization era was much more benevolent. It was also extremely short-lived.

A cloudy day, a view from the bottom of a grass-covered hill with a flat top. At the top of the hill, in the middle distance, are two human-sized standing stones and a small figure which is one human woman. The woman is dressed in a dark blue rainjacket and poses with her arms held triumphantly open. She is the only person in the photo. This is the Hill of Tara. Image (c) wodsidas, 1994.

It’s that time o’ the year when I like to remind folks of the triumphant day in 1994 when I stood next to the Lia Fáil (Stone of Destiny), atop the inauguration mound at the Hill of Tara, and laid claim to the high kingship of ancient Ireland.
