i have an issue with the "but men suffer under patriarchy too" rhethoric that is utilised to turn more cis men into allies. not only is it manipulative in a transparent manner, it can be easily (and is frequently) used by cis men to evade accountability, to center themselves and it IS misleading.
all the things that have come to light in the past months and weeks demonstrate clearly that it is not patriarchy that turns individuals into misogynistic, violent perpetrators but that patriarchy is the expression of a deepseated hatred towards everyone who is not a white straight cis man.
but this is definitely a part of why white people enjoy telling me i am actually white i guess? because there are groups within their own category/label they treat worse i guess?
i'm obviously, at least partially, protected by model minority myth and many have it far worse: i do think often slavic people in austria are more discriminated against than japanese immigrants. otoh generalised statements like this flatten a lot of nuance ofc
sometimes (not always but mostly white) people point out my own proximity to whiteness and privilege, meaning i got off lightly, especially because i grew up in a white environment, relatively removed and estranged from the asian community.
